Women’s Health in Women’s Hands Community Health Centre provides primary healthcare to racialized women from the African, Black, Caribbean, Latin American and South Asian communities in Toronto and surrounding municipalities. We are committed to working from an inclusive feminist, pro-choice, anti-racist, anti-oppression, and multilingual participatory framework.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

 Provides family oriented medical care in a multi-disciplinary team, on or off site by:

o   Interviewing/ history taking.

o   Examining, assessing and treating patients.

o   Maintaining accurate records.

o   Providing supportive counselling and psychotherapy and crisis intervention.

o   Teaching on health and lifestyle matters in a non-judgmental manner.

o   Referring to specialists, hospitals or other agencies as required.

o   Advocating for patients with other medical workers, agencies or institutions.

o   Supervising other medical personnel within the team.

o   Providing after-hours medical care for WHIWH-CHC clients in rotation with other MDs.

o   Ensuring standards of patient care are maintained according to accepted medical standards and WHIWH-CHC policy.

•         Advocating on health and related matters on a larger front for the community as appropriate.

•         Recognizes and implements the educational component of Primary Health Care by supervising and evaluating Medical Residents with other members of the Clinical Team.

•         Assists with the administrative tasks of WHIWH-CHC and the Primary Care Team by:

o   Participating in data collection and analysis and on-going monitoring and evaluation of WHIWH-CHC programs for various purposes (e.g. program planning, research, etc.). 

o   Participating in planning and evaluation of WHIWH-CHC programs and activities.

o   Participating in Peer Reviews

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.    Medical degree from a recognized university.

2.    CCFP Certification or equivalent practical experiences, an asset.

3.    General license to practice from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

4.    Additional training and/or experience in an area relevant to the Centre’s services, an asset.

5.    Two+ years primary care experience; preferably in a community health setting.

6.    Knowledge of women’s health issues.

7.     Understanding of Anti-oppression principles.

8.    Experience in program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, an asset.

9.    Proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications.

This position reports to the Director of Primary Healthcare Services
