About Megaphone

Megaphone is an award-winning social enterprise based in Vancouver that creates low-barrier economic opportunities and amplifies the voices of people experiencing poverty and homelessness.

Founded in 2007, Megaphone publishes Megaphone magazine, the Hope in Shadows calendar, and the Voices of the Street anthology. At the core of our work is the Vendor Program, which responds to the lack of accessible income opportunities for people facing barriers to traditional employment. Each year, we train and support more than 150 vendors to sell our publications on the streets of Vancouver to earn income and build connections with the broader community.

Our Mission:
To change the story on poverty by promoting social equity, amplifying marginalized voices, and creating meaningful work.

Job Description

This position is based at Megaphone’s Downtown Eastside office and reports to the Executive Director.

You’re a people person who knows how to get things done. You bring energy and empathy, initiative and patience. You thrive in dynamic environments, are organized and self-motivated, and understand how to collaborate while also taking ownership of your work. • Supervise and support volunteers at events and activities

  • Maintain accurate program data and statistics

  • Support timely distribution of program honoraria

  • Conduct outreach through phone calls, flyering, and community engagement

Administration

  • Operate the vendor sales desk and maintain financial records

  • Complete daily cash-outs from shifts

  • Participate in regular team and one-on-one meetings

  • Contribute to organizational events and fundraisers

  • Help update policy documents and best practices

  • Support vendor payout processes for online sales

  • Contribute to vendor-related social media and communications

Required Qualifications

These are essential for success in the role:

  • A compassionate and non-judgmental approach to working with people facing multiple barriers or lived experience of poverty/homelessness

  • Outgoing and confident with excellent interpersonal skills

  • Organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple priorities

  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively

  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets) and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram)

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

You don’t need all of these to apply, but let us know if they apply to you:

  • Experience working with marginalized communities, including unhoused or low-income individuals

  • Conflict de-escalation training or relevant experience

  • Experience in sales, community outreach, or organizing

  • Group facilitation or teaching experience

  • Comfort with setting and maintaining boundaries

  • Experience with NationBuilder, Salesforce, or other databases
