POSITION DESCRPTION SUMMARY

Canadian Memorial United Church (CMUC) is looking for a Communications and Marketing Specialist for a 12-month contract covering a parental leave. We are looking for an enthusiastic communicator to help us share our message as a vibrant progressive spiritual community and centre for peace that encourages contemplation, transformation, and action in the world.

HOURS 

20 per week (in person, remote, or hybrid options available). The position hours are somewhat flexible, but the successful candidate must be available Wednesdays for weekly staff meetings.

HOURLY RATE

$26-30 per hour commensurate with experience as a contract position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

COMMUNICATIONS

  • Responsible for all internal and external (incoming and outgoing) communications

Overall accountability for CMUC’s website content, ensuring it is current and relevant as well as ongoing usability enhancements to the site. 

As the hub for all church publications and sites, collaborate with staff and lay leaders in the creation, editing, proofreading and formatting of all public-facing communications, ensuring consistency with CMUC brand. 

Create graphics and posters for programs, events, social media posts, monthly newsletters, press releases etc. 

Manage subscriber lists

Maintain and expand a press/media contact list.

Respond to enquiries received via the website, social media, email.

Provide assistance in the creation of forms, templates, letters, online event ticketing and reports ensuring efficiency, consistency of “look and feel”.

Design and produce publicity materials for new and existing programs.

Promote events throughout CMUC’s network.

Provide guidelines and training as required for Zoom and other communication tools and assist with making programmatic links.

Prepare YouTube links for events/services as required.

MARKETING

Develop and implement a Marketing & Communications Strategy/Plan including intended audience, goals, growth opportunities etc.

Develop and promote CMUC brand via creation of marketing materials like postcards for delivery, a new history booklet in lead up to 100th anniversary, and new programs like The Centre for Peace Talks. 

Continually research and analyze our current and potential community needs, measure satisfaction, collect analytics and continuously improve based on findings.

Manage Google and Social Media advertisements.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Proven technical ability across various domains such as digital marketing, brand positioning, social media etc. 

Experience in maintenance of web hosting platforms using Finalweb – training provided if necessary

Excellent written and oral communications skills

Experience in public relations and marketing 

Strong computing and data analysis skills; experience with presentation software, MS Office and Mac OS; comfort with learning new in-house software

Experience in document and information management

Strong adaptable copywriting skills for various communications channels

Experience using Canva for graphic creation.

Deep understanding of social media including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.
