Position Summary

BCIT Foundation is seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) Associate Director, Donor Relations. This position provides support to the Executive Director and the BCIT Foundation in planning, execution and management of the donor relations and stewardship strategies to enhance prospect and donor engagement, recognition, and retention in long-term meaningful relations. Provides direction to the donor relations team enabling BCIT to build and maintain high standards for donor experiences and satisfaction, acknowledging, recognizing and communicating the impact made by donors and engaging with BCIT’s mission.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Participates as a member of the BCIT Foundation leadership team, supporting the planning, execution and management of the donor relations and stewardship strategies and achievement of the Institute’s success. Supports the Institute’s long-term vision, mission and values.
  • Acts as a key advisor to the Executive Director to contribute and implement prospect and donor relations strategies and programs to achieve short- and long-term philanthropic goals at all levels that grow Foundation revenues and ensure the achievement of BCIT’s priorities for philanthropic support.
  • Supports and executes the integrated strategy, in collaboration with the Executive Director, for BCIT Foundation’s donor stewardship & recognition, development programs, fundraising campaign, and grant application.
  • Creates and executes meaningful touch points and individual stewardship plans that strengthen long-term relationships with top-tier prospects and donors. Develops pipelines with the team and plays a pivotal role in driving revenue growth in support of BCIT Foundation and BCIT’s key funding priorities.
  • Develops and manages the operating plans, budget, performance metrics of the donor relations team and related goals and objectives, in accordance with the Canada Revenue Agency regulations and the fundraising principles.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, builds new programs, creates practices and procedures, identifies metrics, leads process and workflow improvement initiatives that result in efficiencies.
  • Collaborates with BCIT departments to monitor the appropriate utilization and administration of donor provided funds to ensure those funds are expended in accordance with the terms of the donor agreements and the donors’ wishes.
  • Reviews and develops efficient policies and procedures, manages and evaluates effectiveness of touch points, recognition, naming and strategic engagement of past and current major donors to enhance their relationship and ensure that best practices are in place for positive donor experience.
  • Oversees the accuracy and integrity of data for all donors as it relates to determining donor reporting, recording fund beneficiaries and ensuring donor funds are expended appropriately within the administrative and academic units.
  • Works with the Marketing Department in planning and organizing special events to emphasize the importance of donor-centered principles and promote an institution-wide culture of donor relations and stewardship.
  • Develops and implements a well-defined and effective communication plan for disseminating information and the Annual Report to internal and external partners, donors, supporters, and volunteers.
  • Keeps abreast of best practices in the not-for-profit sector, political, economic, educational and social trends to influence and develop innovative approaches to optimize effective implementation and ongoing success of BCIT’s and the Foundation’s donor relations and stewardship strategies.
  • Manages direct and indirect reporting staff, volunteers, oversees and participates in selection, coaching, mentoring, development, performance management and all other people-management practices.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate degree plus minimum of 5 years’ directly related experience, including experience on prospect and donor relationship development.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills, together with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues throughout the Institute, alumni, donors and senior volunteers.
  • Expert ability to strategize, implement and build donor relations and/or campaign programs and activities, along with a talent for motivating staff, project leads and senior volunteers.
  • Advanced writing, planning and organizational skills.
  • Advanced ability to work independently, combined with the skills of flexibility and initiative for thriving in a team environment to achieve Institutional goals.
  • Solid ability to set and accomplish goals and establish priorities with minimum direction.
  • Experience in the education sector and/or a complex environment is an asset.
  • Advanced writing, planning and organizational skills.
  • Solid understanding and competence with standard office systems and applications.
  • Solid understanding of basic research skills.
  • Solid understanding of basic financial management.
