The Canadian Mental Health Association Alberta Division and Centre for Suicide Prevention (CMHA AB + CSP) focuses on community mental health care, emphasizing education, training, advocacy, peer and family support in addition to suicide prevention.  We are a non-profit organization that operates within the CMHA Federation at the provincial level to enhance mental health of all Albertans. 

Job description
Reporting to the Program Lead Recovery College and Caregiver Connections, the Program Support Coordinator will provide support for three programs: Recovery College, Caregiver Connections and Skills for Safer Living. This position is responsible for providing administrative and logistical coordination on program activities, from supporting with training, meetings and events with external and regional partners, to tracking and reporting program progress and activities. The role is optimal for a team member who is highly organized, able to balance a diverse workload within a cross-functional team, with strong communication skills and thrives in a collaborative, community-driven work environment. 

About the Programs
Recovery College: Recovery Colleges (RC) provides peer-based learning opportunities and courses for individuals who are interested in improving their mental health and wellness. CMHA AB + CSP supports several regional partners across Alberta to operationalize Recovery College programming through funding, core supports, and fostering a provincial network of RC.


Caregiver Connection: Caregiver Connection (CC) supports the unique role of Caregivers who support loved ones who experience mental health concerns, mental illness and/or substance use. Caregivers are provided with information and peer-based support that they need to sustain their own wellbeing. CMHA AB + CSP support several regional partners across the Alberta to operationalize Caregiver Connections programming through funding, core supports, and fostering a provincial network of CC. 


Skills for Safer Living: Skills for Safer Living (SfSL) is a psycho-educational group for youth age 12-24 who have past or current experience of suicidal thoughts or suicide attempts. A concurrent group is available for the youth’s caregiver(s) to equip them with the knowledge and skills to support youth. SfSL aims to help participants build basic language, skills and concepts to better understand thoughts about suicide while learning strategies to mitigate them and stay as safe as possible. CMHA AB + CSP supports partners and facilitators across Alberta to support and implement SfSL delivery. 

Requirements

  • A Baccalaureate degree in a related field, such as Psychology, Social Work, or Business Administration. A combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Previous experience with community mental health programs or in a related field.
  • Knowledge of mental health, substance use and/or suicide prevention systems and community services.
  • Previous project coordination or program implementation skills are an asset.
  • Experience with community engagement and collaborative facilitation practices are an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to learn quickly, think logically and detailed, manage complex situations and demonstrate creative problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in conflict situations, positive attitude, willingness to work constructively in team environment.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and flexible, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment of frequent change.

Hours
This full-time position is based on a 35-hour work week. It is expected that the Program Support Coordinator will work five 7-hour days each week during office hours; with flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends. This position will work in a hybrid model with availability to work two days per week in either our Calgary or Edmonton office. There may be requirements for travel to delivery sites within Alberta to support program success. The typical work week is Monday - Friday, 8:30-4:30.

Responsibilities/Competencies, including but not limited to:

Relationship Building

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships and partnerships in alignment with project principles and peer-based approaches.
  • Collaborate with team members and external and regional partners to plan and co-facilitate information sessions, advisory groups and onboarding and orientation sessions. 

Organization

  • Develop and implement systems to track, store, and share information and documentation related to grant and project activities that contributes to program evaluation and reporting. 

Adaptability

  • Adapt to changes in project scope, deadlines, or requirements and being open to new ways of doing things on short notice or working with shifting priorities.
  • Growth mindset with the willingness and ability to learn new tools and skills to improve project outcomes.

Training Coordination and Co-Facilitation 

  • Coordinate training activities such as communications, scheduling, providing training instructions and materials and tracking completion and follow-up.
  • Co-facilitate and assist with peer- and recovery-based training for regional frontline staff. 

Communication

  • Share information concisely and effectively; in groups and one-to-one, both in-person and online.
  • Communicate openly with team and external partners, in a manner that honors the dignity of others, and strives to build constructive and transparent interactions.

Accountability

  • Ability to define expectations for self and others and follow through on those expectations; actively seeks and implements feedback.
  • Ensure program delivery and implementation comply with organizational standards, program model, and quality standards.
  • Identify opportunities for improving processes and systems to help programs run more effectively. Self-reflects and demonstrates discernment when insight or assistance should be requested. 

Perform other related duties as identified to meet the needs of the projects and organization.
