STATUS: TWO (2) – Year contract with possibility of permanency - full time (37.5 hours a week)
WHO WE ARE: Action Réfugiés Montréal (ARM) is a non-governmental faith-inspired organization that seeks justice for asylum seekers and refugeed people. We promote partnerships amongst people who use our services, faith communities and society at large for mutual empowerment. Through our programs we provide hope and assistance while raising awareness. For 30 years we have been an essential voice for the rights of refugeed people in Montreal and beyond. We are currently laying the foundation for the implementation of an evolving strategic plan through the revitalisation of our policies and procedures.
DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will provide leadership, vision and management to approximately eight staff while exercising the strategic direction of the Board and operations for Action Réfugiés Montréal. We are seeking an experienced leader with strong managerial skills to work collaboratively with the Board to support staff through a period of transition, to review and update relevant policies and procedures to reflect the current environment and to ensure a dynamic and collaborative functioning of the organization.
RESPONSIBILTIES:
Management
● Oversee the continued development of the organization’s administrative infrastructure;
● Provide effective general management of the organization and ensure that the daily operations satisfy legal and by-law requirements;
● Ensure that policies and procedures are up to date and support an evolving dynamic direction;
● Together with the treasurer, actively manage the detailed financial activities of the organization, develop the annual budget, prepare and report on financial results for the Board;
● Ensure the financial viability of the organization, including finding new funding sources;
● Support the work of the Board including preparations for monthly meetings.
Fundraising
● Prepare reports, grant proposals and evaluation reports for funders including foundations, churches, and other organisations;
● Support the fundraising committee in their fundraising campaigns.
Programming and team leadership:
● Ensure staff roles and responsibilities are clearly defined;
● Empower staff to fulfill their roles by ensuring strong team dynamics and a positive work environment in a diverse and bilingual context;
● Oversee program delivery by program coordinators and other staff members;
● Evaluate programs and analyze possibilities of new programs in collaboration with program staff;
● Ensure effective management of human resources, including recruitment, hiring, training, supervising, professional development, support and staff evaluation.

Advocacy, communication, and relationship building:
● Oversee the advocacy work and communication strategy of the organization;
● Act as the first point of contact with media outlets related to the programs and expertise of the organization, delegating to relevant staff members when appropriate;
● In collaboration with staff, participate in working groups oriented towards refugee rights;
● Speak in congregational, academic, and community settings to encourage support for refugees;
● Develop and maintain strong relations with donors, especially founding church denominations, family foundations, and religious communities.
Strategic leadership:
● Together with the Board of Directors and with the collaboration and support of staff team, ensure the development and implementation of the strategic plan for Action Réfugiés Montréal within a framework of supporting policies.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Demonstrated ability in small non-profit/NGO management including human resources, financial management,fundraising and partnership management – minimum 5 years of experience
• Demonstrated commitment to organizational values of compassion and justice.
• Demonstrated experience in change management and collaborative management, including effective team management and conflict resolution.
• A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Understanding of forced migration issues and strong sense of commitment and caring for refugee rights.
• Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of government organizations, community partners, and funders including religious communities.
• Experience in advocacy and public education initiatives.
• Capacity to be self-directed and motivated.
• Humility, empathy, and openness to feedback and learning.
• Good knowledge of computers including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• Fluently bilingual, French and English, oral and written.
Regular working hours are from 9 am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, with required flexibility for evening and weekend meetingsand events. While occasional remote work may be possible, this position requires regular presence at the office in downtown
Montreal. Other advantages: Health care plan, 3% RRSP contribution, 4 weeks of vacation, 10 days of personal or sick leave.
