Volunteer Strathcona is seeking an individual to join our Team for the summer who is:
passionate about community in Strathcona County;
eligible for the Canada Summer Job Program; and
looking for an opportunity to use their interpersonal, technical, and administrative skills to contribute to our work supporting the voluntary sector in Strathcona County.

Since 1976, Volunteer Strathcona has been a champion of volunteers and community organizations throughout Strathcona County. Our mission is to connect people to their community by promoting, enhancing and growing volunteerism in Strathcona County.

What your role would look like:
As our Summer Program Assistant, you will report to our Executive Director and will be supporting the work of our volunteer centre in Strathcona County, Alberta, by:
working with our Program Coordinator on our initiative to increase youth engagement in volunteerism
working with our Volunteer Coordinator to provide volunteer management support for local events, and to engage with stakeholders for our volunteer-driven direct service delivery programs
Coordinating our event equipment loan program for community organizations
Participating in community events on behalf of Volunteer Strathcona - please note you will need to work at an event on Canada Day (time off in lieu will be provided)
Working with the rest of the team to update and review Volunteer Strathcona programs, initiatives, procedures, and documentation
General administrative and office duties as required.
Note: this position is full-time in office
What you possess:
Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
Meet the requirements of the Canada Summer Jobs Program, 2025
Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, S.C. 2001
Legally entitled to work according to the relevant Alberta legislation and regulations
Interest in community-building and/or volunteerism - volunteer experience is an asset
Experience in confidently and effectively communicating with members of the public, by telephone, email, social media & other written formats, as well as in-person
Experience using all Google Platforms - experience with CANVA and WordPress would be assets
Alignment with Volunteer Strathcona’s mission and values, and with the core principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and reconciliation
Flexibility and a commitment to strong teamwork
Please note that a Criminal Record check and Vulnerable Sector check will be required
What we can offer you:
$20 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay
35 Hours per week
Works hours are typically 8:30 am – 4:30 pm – Monday to Friday, with a one hour unpaid lunch break, but you must have flexibility to adjust hours to assist with events/meetings during evenings and weekends, including Canada Day
The position is for a maximum of 15 weeks, ending August 29, 2025
