Job Summary
We are seeking a committed and experienced Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Specialist to lead the creation of a comprehensive, community-driven 3-Year GBV and Violence Against Women (VAW) Action Plan, in alignment with Ottawa’s Community Safety and Well-Being Plan (CSWBP).
This role offers an exciting opportunity to work across sectors and with community partners to advance gender justice and improve safety and well-being for all residents—particularly those impacted by GBV and systemic barriers.
About OCTEVAW
The Ottawa Coalition to End Violence Against Women (OCTEVAW) is dedicated to ending gender-based violence through prevention, awareness building, and amplifying frontline voices. Operating under feminist, anti-oppressive, anti-racist, decolonial, 2SLGBTIAQ+ positive, and pro-choice principles, our current strategic plan centers the needs of Indigenous, Black, and racialized survivors and communities.
Key Responsibilities
Review and Analyze: Consolidate existing sector data, including OCTEVAW’s scoping study, GBV Forum outcomes, and community engagement findings.
Lead the Advisory Group: Chair the CSWB GBV Advisory Group, providing logistical and technical support (e.g., agenda setting, membership review, documentation).
Engage Stakeholders: Build and maintain strong relationships with service providers, City departments, donors, and other key partners.
Coordinate the Action Plan: Lead the drafting and development of the Action Plan, integrating feedback from OCTEVAW, the CSWB Office, and Advisory Group members.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who brings:
Experience in the development of GBV advocacy and public policy
Strong knowledge of GBV and VAW issues, especially within diverse and marginalized communities
Demonstrated experience in project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and facilitation
Experience working within or alongside community-based organizations, City departments, or advisory groups
A collaborative, intersectional, and systems-focused approach to social change
Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and report development skills
Proven ability to draft complex reports and strategic documents
A strong anti-racist and anti-colonial feminist praxis
Bilingualism (English and French) with strong written and verbal communication skills
