Job Position: Community Development Facilitator

Department: Newcomers Services

Status: Full-Time – 35 hours per week,

Contract until April 30th, 2027 Location: Brampton

Compensation: $29.18 per hour plus group health benefits

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Manager – Settlement & Employment Programs, the Community Development Facilitator will focus on a designated community catchment area, working with residents to promote social engagement and shared learning that meaningfully includes newcomers. Through these initiatives, the facilitator will help create pathways for newcomers to access social, natural, and service-related resources and connect them to the community’s informal networks, strengths, and support systems.

Responsibilities and Duties: (but not limited to)

* Engage community members and stakeholders to identify strengths, assets, and opportunities for social connection and newcomer inclusion within the catchment area.

* Design and facilitate community forums and learning exchanges on topics such as local history, Indigenous relationships, and the role of immigration in community development.

* Collaborate with service providers and informal community groups to co-create and implement plans that enhance access to community supports and services.

* Support the coordination and participation of volunteers in delivering community-based initiatives.

* Contribute to project evaluation, research, and communication efforts, including compiling statistical reports and documentation for funders and organizational use.

* Participate in staff and team meetings and engage in ongoing professional development activities.

* Follow safe work practices and promptly report any unsafe conditions.

* Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

* Post-secondary education in Community Development, Social Service Work, Human Services, or a related field, along with relevant experience in community development and/or settlement services.

* Strong cultural competency and demonstrated commitment to serving the needs of newcomers in a diverse, inclusive, and equitable environment.

* Extensive knowledge of the immigration system and available newcomer services.

* Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and leadership skills, with the ability to build rapport, listen actively, and guide constructive group dialogue.

* Ability to adapt communication styles across diverse cultural contexts and effectively present information in a clear and inclusive manner.

* Knowledge of community development principles, including participatory action, co-design, and collaboration with community members.

* Capacity to collect, analyze, and interpret community data and apply findings to program planning; familiarity with the Region of Peel is an asset.

* Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

* Conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities using a diplomatic and respectful approach.

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, internet applications, and experience using database systems.

* Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and travel to various community locations.

* Ability to speak one or more of the following languages is an asset: Arabic, Dari, Hindi, Gujarati, Persian, Punjabi, Pashto, and Urdu.

* Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

* Successful candidates must provide a satisfactory Criminal Background Check prior to commencing employment.
