Business Unit: Metlakatla First Nation

Location: Metlakatla, British Columbia

Reporting to: Director of Health

The Metlakatla First Nation has an opening for a permanent, full-time Meals on Wheels position in Metlakatla. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing healthy meals and delivering them to our clients while maintaining a clean, sanitized, and safe work environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, purchasing, and keeping accurate inventory.

Responsibilities:

  • Create monthly menus paying particular attention to the nutritional needs of clients with chronic illnesses (e.g., Diabetes);
  • Prepare and package meals using Food Safe procedures and deliver meals directly to the client in the home;
  • Serve clients in a respectful and caring way;
  • Store leftovers according to Food Safe procedures;
  • Use leftovers in a timely fashion and accordance with Food Safe handling procedures;
  • Perform inventory counts and turnover;
  • Collect all delivery containers;
  • Communicate with clients regarding menu plans;
  • Prepare grocery list, shop and be responsible for submitting receipts to the Director of Health;
  • On a regular basis, work with the Nutritionist to enhance knowledge and skills for preparing foods;
  • Participate in luncheons planned by the Health team;
  • Record daily meal preparation;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Competencies and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of work experience preparing food in a professional kitchen
  • Minimum of one (1) year working with seniors and elders is an asset
  • Knowledge of traditional food preservation and preparation is an asset
  • Experience working in the Indigenous community is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer programs, such as Microsoft Office
  • Current Food Safe level 1 certificate
  • Current WHMIS certificate
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and clear Driver's Abstract
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills

Working Conditions:

  • Travel throughout the Metlakatla community is required.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
