About Us:

Maama Watali is an Ottawa-based nonprofit Black Women’s organization with a global reach. Since 2012, we have been dedicated to designing, producing, and delivering impactful educational programs while providing individual and group support for Black women and their families. Our mission focuses on rebuilding lives in the aftermath of gender-based violence through equitable, trauma-informed approaches. 

Central to our work is Maama Watali House, a 14-unit affordable housing project that will provide survivors and their families with a safe and supportive space to rebuild their lives. Through this and other projects, we aim to foster resilience, create opportunities for healing and sustainable growth.

 

The Role:

We are seeking a Housing Project Manager who will act in a project coordinator capacity in support of our Transitional Housing project - Maama Watali House.

This role will act as a bridge between the non profit organization and housing project stakeholders, ensuring that the project aligns with the umbrella organization’s overall mission to deliver trauma-informed, equitable housing solutions for survivors of gender-based violence.

Responsibilities will include coordinating project timelines, advocating for resident-centered practices, contributing to housing policies and operational procedures that meet the needs of future residents.

 

Your Impact:

  • Attend project meetings and prepare regular written progress updates for the nonprofit’s leadership team on  challenges, and potential risks.

  • Conduct site visits to monitor and evaluate progress. Document milestones through reports and photos.

  • Collaborate with the communications team, providing ongoing  updates as requested for communications to external stakeholders.

  • Research and advocate for trauma-informed design elements, ensuring building policies and layouts provide safe and supportive environments.

  • Track and manage the project’s timeline, identifying key milestones and deliverables while ensuring adherence to deadlines.

  • Assist in the creation and implementation of post-construction housing policies and operational procedures for effective day-to-day management.

  • Contribute to the development of intake and record management processes to support housing operations.

 

Who You Are:

 

  • Completed or currently completing a diploma or degree in Construction - Project Management, Real Estate Development, Urban Planning, or a related field.

  • Training or relevant work experience in social housing, real estate development, and/or nonprofit administration is an asset.

  • Proficiency in MS Office 365 Suite and Google Suite.

  • Takes a mature approach with an ability to work independently, proactively take ownership of projects by identifying challenges and suggesting solutions.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information, project plans, and housing policies.

  • Collaborative and responsive, working as part of a team to achieve shared goals.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage timelines and successfully set competing priorities. 

  • Passionate about social housing initiatives as an effective solution to the housing and homelessness crisis as a tool to serve the needs of communities.

  • Knowledge of/and interest in intersectional feminist frameworks
