About Us:

Maama Watali is an Ottawa-based nonprofit Black Women’s organization with a global reach. Since 2012, we have been dedicated to designing, producing, and delivering impactful educational programs while providing individual and group support for Black women and their families. Our mission focuses on rebuilding lives in the aftermath of gender-based violence through equitable, trauma-informed approaches. 

 

Central to our work is Maama Watali House, a 14-unit affordable housing project that will provide survivors and their families with a safe and supportive space to rebuild their lives. Through this and other projects, we aim to foster resilience and create opportunities for sustainable growth and healing.

 

The Role:

We are seeking a Development Coordinator to support our fundraising efforts and work closely with the fundraising and communications team to represent our needs to the broader community. The role will focus on four key areas:

  1. Identifying funding opportunities, including grants and corporate sponsorships.

  2. Assisting with the preparation and submission of grant applications and funding proposals.

  3. Contributing to the development and management of our donor and sponsor database.

  4. Supporting the planning and execution of fundraising events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research to identify funding opportunities, including grants, corporate sponsorships, and other revenue streams.

  • Assist with drafting, preparing, and submitting grant applications, funding proposals, and sponsorship packages that align with organizational goals.

  • Develop and maintain the donor and sponsor database, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records of contributions, sponsorship agreements, and engagement activities.

  • Support donor stewardship efforts, including acknowledgment letters, follow-ups, and regular updates on organizational initiatives and project outcomes.

  • Support planning, coordination, and execution of fundraising events and creative campaigns in collaboration with team members.

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to promote fundraising initiatives, campaigns, and donor communications.

  • Build and maintain relationships with corporate sponsors, funders, and community partners to support organizational objectives.

  • Provide administrative support, including scheduling meetings, organizing documents, and preparing fundraising reports and progress updates.

Who you are:

  • Diploma or degree in Fundraising, Nonprofit Management, or Marketing.

  • Experience or coursework in grant writing and donor relations,or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

  • Proficiency in MS Office 365 Suite and Google Suite.

  • Takes a mature approach to work with an ability to work independently and proactively take ownership of projects by  identifying challenges and suggesting solutions.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal, time management and organizational skills.

  • Keen interest to seek unconventional or non-traditional partnerships

  • Knowledge of/and interest in intersectional feminist frameworks
