Youth Mental Health Canada (YMHC) is an educator and youth-led charitable nonprofit organization focused on intersectional mental health and suicide prevention through education, support, advocacy, and change. Using a human rights, social justice, and equity lens, YMHC is committed to supporting young people and their families across Canada.
We are seeking an Indigenous post-secondary student to join our team as an Indigenous Outreach & Community Engagement Assistant. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to meaningful mental health resources and community initiatives while gaining valuable experience in the nonprofit sector.
This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs and requires eligibility under their program guidelines.
Support the development of culturally responsive mental health resources (posters, presentations, and/or booklets) that respect Indigenous perspectives and knowledge
Assist with organizing and coordinating YMHC's Community Wellness Fair (planned for mid-August at Theatre Aquarius)
Provide vendor support at local community events, including the Locke Street Festival
Participate in weekly team meetings (Monday virtual meetings and Friday in-office meetings)
Help maintain YMHC's relationship with Indigenous communities and organizations
Contribute to YMHC's initiatives to make mental health resources accessible to Indigenous youth
Be between 15-30 years of age at the start of employment
Self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit)
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status
Have a valid Social Insurance Number (not beginning with "9") and be legally entitled to work in Canada
This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Candidates must meet all eligibility requirements of this program.
Be registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year
Interest in youth mental health, community engagement, and resource development
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office and social media platforms
Weekly meetings: Monday at 10 AM (virtual via Zoom) and Friday at 10 AM (in-office)
Community events: Selected Sundays in June, July, and August for the Locke Street Festival
Community Wellness Fair: Coordination and attendance in mid-August (date to be confirmed)
Remaining hours can be completed remotely with regular check-ins
