Davenport-Perth Neighbourhood and Community Health Centre (DPNCHC) is a multi-service community agency committed to furthering community development/capacity building and health promotion activities for all ages. A United Way Agency, the Centre specializes in programs ranging from early years to youth, isolated adults, health, and seniors. The Seniors’ ACS Program Worker will assist the team to plan, develop, promote, implement, and evaluate activities and events for the Afro Caribbean Seniors Program.  This position is funded for 2 years with a Supporting Older Adults Grant to help foster social connections, volunteerism, and improve the health and well-being for older adults in the community. The program runs on Thursdays every week.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan, develop, and implement activities for the Afro Caribbean Seniors Program,
  • Plan and carry out activities for the Afro-Caribbean Seniors group using a community development approach,
  • Assist in developing and implementing a Seniors’ Service Model that includes Best Practices and uses a client-centered, community development model,
  • Participate in a constructive, collaborative, and cooperative manner within the seniors' staff team in the planning and implementation of the seniors’ program activities,
  • Carry out program planning and delivery within the context of DPNCHC's mission statement,
  • Keep updated program registration forms, waivers, and program attendance,
  • Support and integrate any volunteer and student placements connected to Seniors Services,
  • Assist with needs assessments and program evaluations.

Qualifications:

  • 1.5 years of experience providing programming to marginalized or isolated and culturally diverse seniors – preferably those who identify as African, Black, Caribbean,
  • Experience working with seniors, with a focus on Black, African, Caribbean community,
  • Current CPR and First Aid certificates,
  • Demonstrated group facilitation skills,
  • Good English language – verbal and written language,
  • Good computer literacy (WORD, Excel, email, database programs),
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, health promotion, cultural competency, and community development,
  • Experience working with and supporting volunteers,
  • Knowledge of the Davenport-Perth neighbourhood is an asset,
  • Available to work on Thursdays.

Start Date: ASAP

 

Hourly range:  $21.990 - $23.927 per hour plus statutory benefits and Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP). This position is part of the bargaining unit.
