Term: July 15, 2025 – January 15, 2026 (6-month maternity leave coverage; possibility of extension)
Hours: Part-time - 14 to 22 hours/week
Compensation: $26.78/hour + 4% vacation pay
Pacific Opera Victoria is seeking a Temporary Part-Time Accounting Assistant to support our finance team. Reporting to the Finance Director, this role is responsible for managing accounts receivable and payable, processing invoices, maintaining vendor relations, and supporting other accounting functions as needed.
This is a unique opportunity to work with a professional not-for-profit arts organization in a flexible, collaborative, and creative environment.
• Review, verify, and process invoices and payment requests
• Handle electronic payments and prepare check runs
• Monitor and reconcile accounts payable/receivable, including follow-up on outstanding receivables
• Maintain vendor records and respond to inquiries
• Process reimbursement claims and bank deposits
• Post journal entries and maintain the general ledger
• Assist with month-end closing and account reconciliations (including credit cards)
• Ensure accuracy and compliance in financial data and procedures
• Support administrative tasks (filing, data entry) and assist with audits
• Experience as a Bookkeeper or in AR/AP or a similar accounting role
• Knowledge of basic accounting principles
• Familiarity with SAGE 300 ERP (ACCPAC) or equivalent systems preferred
• Strong numeracy and data entry skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
• High school diploma required; post-secondary education in accounting or finance preferred
• Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have a valid Canadian work permit
• High accuracy and attention to detail
• Strong time management and organizational skills
• Clear and professional communication
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
