What We Do
WIN House provides individuals and their children fleeing violence, crisis response and intervention, safe temporary accommodation, and support for basic needs. Clients are offered trauma-informed, client-centered programming and support, access to resources, information, and referrals to community support. WIN House is working towards operating within a low-barrier model of care.
What You Will Do
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer the Community Engagement Builder plays an important role in deepening our connection with the community, amplifying our mission, and advancing public understanding of domestic violence. Grounded in equity, diversity, and inclusion, they will cultivate meaningful partnerships, empower volunteers, and drives awareness efforts that strengthen both WIN House and the broader community.
The Community Engagement Builder will regularly demonstrate initiative and proactively undertake the following key responsibilities:
Education & Awareness
Design and deliver impactful presentations, workshops, and campaigns to raise awareness about domestic violence and WIN House’s mission.
Foster partnerships with educational institutions, workplaces, and community groups to build knowledge and preventative strategies.
Represent WIN House at community events, conferences, and speaking engagements.
Volunteer Engagement
Recruit, train, supervise, and celebrate a diverse base of volunteers.
Develop a positive and inclusive volunteer culture that supports both WIN House operations and community events.
Align volunteer talents with organizational needs to optimize engagement and impact.
Community & Sector Collaboration
Build relationships with community stakeholders, service providers, and corporate partners to strengthen community ties and expand outreach.
Attend and contribute to Communities of Practice related to domestic violence, equity, education, and community development.
Promote and support the efforts of the Edmonton and Region Shelter Directors group by coordinating awareness initiatives, preparing communications, and fostering collaborative learning.
Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI)
Act as a champion for equity, diversity, and inclusion within WIN House and in external engagement.
Help identify and address systemic barriers in outreach and volunteer practices.
Support internal staff training and external messaging that aligns with inclusive values.
Advocacy & Public Engagement
Contribute to WIN House’s advocacy efforts through storytelling, campaign participation, and coalition-building.
Collaborate with communications and fund development teams to create content that amplifies survivor voices and engages supporters.
Participate in public policy and awareness initiatives that support systemic change.
Who You Are
Qualifications include:
Post-secondary education in communications, community development, public relations, social work, or a related field.
Minimum 3 years of experience in community engagement, volunteer coordination, or advocacy, preferably in the non-profit or social services sector.
Outstanding communication, public speaking, and facilitation skills.
Experience working with diverse communities and an understanding of trauma-informed and anti-oppressive practices.
Demonstrated knowledge of EDI principles and their practical application.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives and foster stakeholder relationships.
Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as required.
Familiarity with issues related to domestic violence and the shelter sector.
Experience participating in or leading Communities of Practice.
Proficiency with volunteer management systems and CRM platforms.
Multilingual ability and cultural competency.
The Details
The role will be working out of our Business Office with hours of work from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Monday to Thursday and 8:30 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. on Fridays. WIN House offers a pet-friendly, team-oriented working environment.
The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $78,000 per year combined with a comprehensive extended health benefit package and pension plan.

The successful candidate will be required to submit a Criminal Record Check and must be willing to sign an Oath of Confidentiality.
