The Indigenous Homelands Program supports community members from remote First Nations to be able to return to and thrive on their homelands in ways that honour their social, cultural, and environmental well-being. Our team works on research and on-the-ground community projects, and produces several knowledge tools, with a focus on four key pillars: decolonial governance, land stewardship, circular economies, and holistic housing.
Ecotrust Canada is seeking a dedicated, thoughtful, and creative individual to join our small but passionate Indigenous Homelands team as our Indigenous Education Specialist. This position will support the long-term development, delivery, and adaptation of the Indigenous Housing & Homelands Public Education Curriculum, as well as launch and maintain two creative, accessible “toolkits.” This position is grounded in decolonial pedagogies and will ensure that our educational materials are grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing and relevant to multiple learner types. Over time, the role will also support other knowledge mobilization initiatives, including our newly launched regional supply chain network.
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about democratizing knowledge; is interested in supporting First Nations community members to learn about, understand, and advocate for their rights related to issues such as land tenure and housing; and is an educator at heart.
At Ecotrust Canada, we build long-term, reciprocal partnerships with Indigenous Nations. Our work in the Indigenous Homelands Initiative is rooted in respect for Indigenous governance, knowledge systems, and self-determination. Our program is land-based and rooted in place. We deeply value authentic, long-term relationships, both with people and place.
Ecotrust Canada implements a 32-hour 4-day work week for full time position staff, with flexibility to accommodate for staff needs.
