 Job Description – Registered Dietitian

Job Summary

The Glacierview Apartments Assisted Living Program and Skyline Lodge Licensed Housing Program provide assistance, support and basic skill training to members in their living environment while encouraging independence, self-responsibility, and healthy lifestyle choices.

 

The Registered Dietitian (RD) provides technical expertise in support of the food program and members nutrition. The RD is responsible for nutrition care planning, developing rotational menu plans and ensuring adherence to facility policies related to nutrition.

Functions & Responsibilities

  1. Performs nutrition assessment and nutritional care plan development with members. Assesses member responses to care plan and responds appropriately, including conducting weight monitoring and following up on unintentional weight fluctuations.
  2. Develops a rotational menu plan with provision for special celebrations and holidays, and provision of a variety of healthful foods from the Canada Food Guide that take into account individual requirements as well as personal and cultural food preferences.
  3. Conducts quality assurance audits related to nutrition and food services.
  4. Delivers in-service education to staff and members.
  5. Develops and maintains nutrition-related policies and procedures and conducts annual reviews.
  6. Participates in relevant food committees as necessary.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education, Training & Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics or Nutritional Sciences from an accredited university and two (2) years recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  2. Registration with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia
  3. Broad knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners established by the College of Dietitians of BC.
  4. Broad knowledge of nutrition issues relevant to clients with mental health and addiction issues. Experience working with people with mental illness or those at risk of homelessness and a demonstrated commitment to promoting empowerment and individual/group advocacy.
  5. Satisfactory criminal record check.
  6. Compliance with the provincial TB immunization program. 

 

Skills & Abilities

  1. Demonstrated initiative and ability to function independently.
  2. Excellent teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and organization skills.
  3. Demonstrated ability to communicate with and deal effectively with co-workers, other professionals, clients and their families, and external agencies.
  4. Proficiency in various computer applications.
