Canada’s electricity sector is experiencing significant growth and transformation. As Canadians electrify their homes and vehicles, integrate renewable energy technologies into the grid and embrace the impact of digital technology, it is crucial to bring together employers, unions, post-secondary institutions and policymakers to address the labour challenges confronting the sector.

Electricity Human Resources Canada (EHRC) is working with its partners to build a world-class, safety-focused, innovative and inclusive electricity workforce. A key element of our work is telling this sector’s stories to various audiences across various channels.

The Communications Officer powers EHRC’s message and drives impact by creating compelling content across digital and print channels. This individual collaborates with internal and external teams to increase awareness and engagement of our projects, campaigns, partnerships and events.

Responsibilities

  • Write and publish engaging content across a variety of platforms (emails, webpages, social media, blogs, articles, news releases, ads).
  • Conduct interviews and craft compelling stories.
  • Edit and review written materials for strategic and editorial consistency (publications, resources, presentations).
  • Curate and coordinate newsletters and email marketing, maintain subscriber database.
  • Implement and inform communications plans for projects, campaigns and events.
  • Manage website content and social media channels.
  • Lead the content calendar and production schedules.
  • Coordinate external content producers.
  • Report on marketing and communications regularly and at project close.
  • Represent EHRC at industry events.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator with experience in writing, editing, publishing and cross-functional collaboration. They are confident in shaping communications strategies and proposing innovative ideas to engage new and targeted audiences.

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience writing and creating various communications products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in conducting interviews and collaborating with subject matter experts.
  • Ability to edit and revise written materials for consistent voice, tone and narrative.
  • Skilled in communicating complex information clearly to non-expert audiences.
  • Strong project coordination skills and ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality work consistently.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in web management, email marketing and social media platforms.
  • Experience in graphics/imagery development, video production, event coordination or media relations is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the electricity industry is an asset.
  • Bilingualism in English and French is beneficial.

Work Environment

Compensation and Benefits

  • This is a term, 18-month contract with the possibility of an extension. 
  • Salary: $60,000 to $67,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
