The Canadian Mental Health Association Brant Haldimand Norfolk branch (CMHA BHN) has an exciting opportunity for a Supervisor, Residential Programs to join our team in Brantford, ON. This position will play a key role in supervision, coordination, promotion and the monitoring of a residential program under the direction of the Program Manager.
About CMHA Brant Haldimand Norfolk: CMHA Brant Haldimand Norfolk (BHN) Branch is a charitable, non-profit agency contributing to the mental well-being of the community through education and support services to all persons 16 years of age and over with mental illness, mental disorders and their families in a safe, discrimination free environment.
The staff of CMHA Brant Haldimand Norfolk Branch is comprised of a team of dedicated mental health professionals, with appropriate educational qualifications and experience working with the seriously mentally ill.
Location: This position will be based at our residential program, located in Brantford Ontario.
Position Responsibilities:
Oversee the operation of a Residential Program (BSB) and conduct all duties within the coordinated and consultative context of ongoing supervision with the Program Manager.
Contribute to the conceptualization and implementation of strategic planning directions and operational development.
Provide supervision to designated staff, student placements, and volunteers including service delivery systems, administrative duties and pre-authorized expenditures directly related to the functioning of the program.
Key responsibilities in the development, implementation and monitoring of services and infrastructure related to the assigned residential program (BSB). This refers to the operational development of the program’s infrastructure related to policies, procedures, and program systems.
Take an active role in collaboration with other CMHA staff, community partners, accreditors and/or external evaluators related to policies, procedures, and program systems.
Act as a participating member of the CMHA Management Team by taking an active role in the delivery and reinforcement of key agency messaging and implementation planning. The supervisor works in conjunction with the Manager and/or Management Team in the development of key messages and operational plans.
Serve as a role model for and encourage others to perform duties in a manner consistent with the Agency’s Vision, Mission & Values.
Ensure that staff conduct the appropriate level of risk assessment in carrying out their duties in the interests of the safety and security of staff, others, and the property.
Participate with the Program Manager and/or HR department in the recruitment, interviewing and hiring process (as necessary).
Contact, consult and liaise with community agencies, referral sources, professionals, and program participants to ensure the coordination and effective delivery of services (can include the development of protocols).
Oversee and ensure effective referral, admission, and discharge processes in consultation with the Program Manager.
Provide on-call coverage for assigned programs in coordination with the Program Manager.
Monitor and ensure completion of safety audits, maintenance, and repairs in conjunction with the Program Manager.
Post and maintain BSB/ CSB staff schedules in compliance with agency requirements and address any scheduling issues with the Program Manager.
Review timesheets of the MHW staff team for schedule/shift accuracy and forward them to the Program Manager within necessary timelines.
Monitor Health & Safety compliance (in conjunction with H&S Representatives) and report identified hazards to the Program Manager.
Education:
University Degree in Social Services, with preference for Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or Master of Social Work (MSW)
Experience:
5 years experience in Mental Health or related field working in the not-for-profit sector or a comparable combination of experience and skills.
3 years working experience in a supervisory role.
Experience working in congregate living and/or residential services in mental health or a related field.
Additional Preferences & Qualifications:
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Extensive working knowledge of CMHA services and other community services relevant to the support of program clients.
Excellent organizational, administrative, computer, verbal and written communication skills.
Emotional maturity, tact and the ability to obtain the confidence of and develop relationships with program participants and their informal support systems (such as family, guardians, & friends), as well as professional staff, colleagues and peers.
Ability to problem-solve, think creatively and act quickly to meet the needs of service participants and respond appropriately to crisis situations.
Possession of a valid Drivers License, clean drivers abstract and use of a vehicle.
Compensation: starting from $72,800 per year commensurate with experience and qualifications, along with benefits, a flexible work environment and a workplace culture committed to personal wellbeing and psychological safety.
Hours of Work: shifts are typically 7.5 hours daily, Monday to Friday, and involve on-call duties as required.

Working conditions:
This is a full-time position, working shifts are typically 7.5 hours daily, Monday to Friday, (currently 35 hours/week) and involve on-call duties as required.
This position functions in a residential program setting using typical office equipment, with extended periods of sitting, telephone interaction and/or working at a computer and no unusual physical demands.
Due to the public nature of this job, there may be some challenging contacts or situations from external stakeholders.
