Job Summary:

The Counsellor provides counselling services to individuals and families who are clients of the Foundry Abbotsford. The Counsellor will build relationships with clients by providing counselling and therapeutic interventions, in both one-to-one and/or in group settings for youth aged 12 to 24. The Counsellor will act as a case manager, will re-evaluate clients’ goals when needed, and will document progress ensuring the interdisciplinary team is kept up to date on client progress.

Your Role:

Archway’s Counsellor with Foundry Abbotsford contributes by:

  • Facilitating short-term counselling for youth using a Brief Solution Focused Therapy model and a trauma informed lens. This includes working with youth in crisis.
  • Establishing supportive and trusting relationships that reduce risk and promote positive choices.
  • Coordinating with other community services including specialized services if necessary.
  • Using a variety of counselling modalities to meet clients’ needs including but not limited to CBT, DBT, MI, SFBT, EFFT and trauma informed approaches.
  • Maintaining accurate reports and records and providing required reports to the Supervisor.
  • Ensuring that all required documentation is complete.
  • Ensuring client files are current and contain the necessary information.
  • Reporting and discussing case planning and concerns with the Supervisor and relevant professionals consistent with confidentiality policies.
  • Maintaining a thorough knowledge of community resources within and outside of Foundry Abbotsford.

  • Wage:  $41.02 per hour.
  • A permanent, full-time position at 35 hours per week, availability Mondays to Fridays, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. (Tuesdays until 7:00 p.m.).

Getting an Interview – you will be considered if you have:

  • A Master’s degree in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology or in a related field.
  • A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License, and clean driving record.
  • Experience providing counselling to youth/young adults.
  • Experience working with individuals with significant mental health or substance use challenges. 

The Job Requires you to have:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and work with a diverse population as well as other professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to counsel youth and young adults, using a trauma informed lens.
  • Ability to use a variety of counselling modalities to meet clients’ needs including CBT, DBT, MI, ACT, EFFT, and trauma counselling.
  • Ability to facilitate groups as well as individual sessions.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and assess risk.
  • Use of a personal vehicle, insured according to Archway policy.
  • Ability to switch tasks as the position may experience frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to interact with difficult people in difficult situations or situations of conflict where clients become rude or unpleasant.
  • Ability to work from various locations including Foundry Abbotsford and in schools.
  • Emergency First Aid with CPR/AED is a condition of employment.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check is a condition of employment.
