JOB TITLE: Front of House Coordinator
Supervisor: Operations and Services Manager
Type of Position: Year-round, permanent
Hours: 20-31 hours per week, variable seasonally
Location: 15 hours per week on-site; remote option for remaining hours
Position Overview
The Front of House Coordinator is a leadership position in the Grad House restaurant. Reporting to
the Operations and Services Manager, the Front of House Coordinator supervises, schedules, and
leads a team of servers/bartenders. They are responsible for maintaining positive customer
relations, both in person through exemplary customer service and through the Grad House social
media.
The primary objective of the Front of House Coordinator is to work with the Operations and
Services Manager to maintain operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. Their primary
responsibilities include bartending duties, coordinating events, catering requests, and
reservations, and overseeing front of house (FOH) staff (including scheduling). This position is
expected to dedicate 30% of their time to administrative tasks and 70% of their time working
directly with/in the front of house. The FOHC is a unionized position.
Essential Job Functions
Customer Service
● Take and process food and beverage orders in a timely & accurate fashion
● Serve food and beverages to guests
● Provide food and beverage product knowledge to customers & FOH staff
● Use proper alcohol preparation & food/beverage serving techniques
● Practice responsible alcohol service
● Take customer payments & prepare shift cash-out reports
● Approve voids, refunds, and discounts
● Respond to customer complaints
● Perform cleaning duties, side duties, and maintain FOH stock levels
Administration
● Manage social media promotions & advertising for the Grad House
● Act as the primary point of contact for all customer inquiries, via daily monitoring of the Grad
House email account
● Oversee all major events, ensuring customer satisfaction
● In coordination with the Operations & Services Manager and Head Cook:
o Receive and respond to requests for reservations, event bookings, and catering orders
o Ensure accurate and thorough health and safety information is available to FOH staff
(i.e., allergen information, safety procedures)
● In coordination with the Operations & Services Manager:
o Assist with beverage purchasing
o Support positive relationships with beverage suppliers & sponsors
o Develop, test, and cost rotating beverage menus
o Maintain FOH stock levels (alcohol, bar equipment, glassware, non-alcoholic
beverages) and inventory records
o Ensure FOH staff duties are completed (i.e., cash-outs, cleaning duties, open/close
duties etc.)
o Develop internal policies and procedures and ensure FOH staff understanding &
adherence
● Act as the point of contact between the FOH staff and kitchen team
● Develop and execute annual Grad House events budget, including working with GSS Events
staff to plan events
Supervision and Training
● Takes a leadership role among FOH staff, leading by example and promoting a high standard of
service, compliance with food and beverage safety standards, and supporting a safe and
respectful work environment
● Provides day-to-day FOH supervision
● Responsible for scheduling of FOH staff, including finding coverage for absent employees
● In coordination with the Operations & Services Manager:
o Participate in FOH staff hiring
o Oversee FOH staff training and progress evaluation
o Plan & co-facilitate all-staff meetings
o Identify appropriate mechanisms for FOH staff to respond to issues
o Respond to general staff issues
o Communicate regularly with FOH staff (e.g., menu updates, event details, seasonal
hours of operation, closure dates, etc.)
● Promote a positive relationship between FOH staff & customers, including establishing
customer service standards & conduct expectations
● Ensures all heath and safely regulations, liquor laws and restaurant policy are followed
Qualifications / Knowledge
● Serving It Right
● FOODSAFE (asset)
● WHMIS (asset)
● Proficient with Microsoft Suite (outlook, excel, etc.)
● 1+ year experience in a food/beverage service supervisory role (asset)
● Completion of a food service administration, hotel or restaurant management qualification
(asset)
● Completion of conflict management, de-escalation, or harm-reduction training (asset)
● Knowledge of the products, services, sector, industry and local area (asset)
● Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations (e.g. Liquor Control and Licensing Act)
● Must be able to perform simple math calculations
● Must be able to move quickly and stand for long periods
● Ability to lift up to 25lb
