The Opportunity

We are currently looking for self-directed, engaging, energetic part-time Communications Assistant to join our growing team. This position assists the organization in effectively engaging and informing the community (internal and external) through social and digital media and communications strategies to foster engagement and support ESSS’ mission, vision, and values.

POSITION: Communications Assistant
                   Temporary, Part time
END DATE: 18-month contract with the possibility of extension


HOURS OF WORK: 22.5 Hrs per week

SALARY RANGE: CSSEA Wage Grid 10: $26.83 – $29.76 hourly  (Depending on experience and qualifications)

BENEFITS: Not Eligible
VACATION: As per ESS policies 
START DATE: Preferably August 2025

Key Duties and Responsibilities
•    Supports the development and communications of ESSS information through social media and ESSS websites.
•    Supports the day-to-day creation, monitoring, and maintenance of compelling and dynamic content, including media releases, newsletters, images, videos, and digital engagement, ensuring that all content is in-line with Encompass’ mission, vision, and values.
•    Monitors trends and issues and recommends ways to further market programs and services via digital media platforms.
•    Works with Communications and program teams to coordinate external (such as advertising and marketing) and internal communications.
•    Supports the preparation and distribution of content, including but not limited to print and digital content, signage, presentations, reports, and display materials (such as brochures and posters).
•    Supports the implementation of communication plans, strategies, and priorities as required.
•    Assists with the planning and execution of special events and may provide administrative and/or on-site support.
•    Maintains updated active media listing directory and/or develops and maintains an up-to-date and comprehensive database of contacts for report/e-newsletter distribution.
•    Participates in various committees and meetings as requested.
•    Provides administrative support to leadership team as required.
•    Develop and maintain strong relationships across the range of community partners and internal programs.
•    Proofreads, edits, and fact checks content prior to internal/external distribution or publication via website, newsletter, or email.
•    Performs other related duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

1.    Education and Knowledge
•    Relevant post-secondary education in a discipline related to administration, communications, public relations, business, or other related discipline. 
•    One to three years of experience in a Communications role, preferably in social and digital media.
•    Or, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
•    Current First Aid Certificate

2.    Skills and Abilities
•    Experience with Meta Business Suite, Canva, Weebly, Survey Monkey, WordPress and MailChimp.
•    Experience with Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn; and familiar with social media trends (Reels, Stories, etc.) and target audiences.
•    Outstanding oral and written communication with strong attention to tone, detail, and messaging.
•    Ability to create social media strategies and engaging content, and tailor them for a variety of platforms and diverse audiences.
•    Familiarity with video production or editing (photo/video) an asset.
•    Excellent creativity, technical, time management, multi-tasking, and interpersonal skills.
•    Adaptability and willingness to learn new tools/platforms
•    Knowledge of public relations and marketing an asset.
•    Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Windows OS.
•    Ability to operate and maintain all general office equipment.
•    Professional, confidential, friendly, courteous, respectful and motivated.
•    Ability to anticipate needs and exercise good judgment.
•    Demonstrated interest in the social services sector.
