The Welcome Home – A Mission of St. Alphonsus Inc. is seeking a
Ministry Support Worker (part-time position – 15-20 hours per week)
The Welcome Home is a faith-based initiative located in the inner-city neighborhood of Point Douglas in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was begun in 1993 by the Ukrainian Catholic Redemptorists with a mission of service to the residents of this historic neighbourhood. Following in the steps of Christ Jesus, our Redeemer, we seek to “bring the good news to the poor” (Lk 4:16), giving witness to the mercy and compassion of God and the building of God’s Kingdom on earth. Our outreach is based on an understanding of the human person that recognizes a constitutive spiritual dimension. This implies care for the whole person created in the image of God and the promotion of fundamental human rights to dignity and justice. Our vision and mission are realized through a life of prayer, compassionate service to our neighbours, and the formation of a caring community with them.
The Welcome Home is seeking a Ministry Support Worker (MSW) in a contract position who shares the core values of Catholic faith and spirituality and feels called to ministry with the resident Redemptorists. This is an individual who feels called to live in solidarity with people on the socio-economic margins of our church and society, is self-motivated, on a spiritual journey, and embraces The Welcome Home experience as an opportunity for personal growth and faith enrichment.
The MSW is a team player and a community builder. He or she will work together with the Redemptorists and volunteers at The Welcome Home to provide a home-style atmosphere of Christian hospitality that strives to build a faith-filled and caring community. The MSW can identify with the unique needs and challenges facing the members of this neighborhood. The MSW has a capacity to nurture healthy relationship, model positive behaviour, and has proven experience working with women and children.
