Role Overview

We’re looking for a Service Clubs & Volunteer Support Officer to be the heartbeat of our Community Fundraising & Events team. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role is all about connecting the dots—between volunteers, service clubs, sponsors, and our incredible events across the country. 

What You’ll Be Doing: 

1. Service Clubs & Community Fundraising (75%) 

You’ll be the friendly face and trusted partner for Lions Clubs, service organizations, and community groups across Canada. From cultivating new relationships to stewarding long-time supporters, you’ll help drive meaningful fundraising that fuels our mission—especially our life-changing D-Camps for kids living with diabetes. 

This role supports the fundraising department within Diabetes Canada and generates an overall revenue of $700k/annually through grants, and proposals.  

2. Volunteer & Intern Engagement (25%) 

You’ll lead the charge in recruiting, training, and supporting our amazing day-of-event volunteers, office helpers, interns, and Canada Summer Jobs participants. You’ll be their go-to guide, cheerleader, and coordinator—making sure they feel valued and empowered every step of the way. 

Location: 1000 – 170 University Ave. Toronto, Ontario. A flexible work agreement policy in place allowing employees to work on a hybrid schedule, working remotely, and with the expectation of being on-site and attending events.

Candidates must have a valid Ontario driver's license and access to a vehicle to be eligible for this role.

This role includes, but is not limited to:

Service Clubs & Community Fundraising (75%)

  • Using current data and trends to research and identify potential prospect donors to maximize fundraising revenue with the annual target of $700k+
  • Working with the volunteer clubs and agencies to identify potential committee members
  • Create fundraising campaigns and strategies for solicitating service clubs
  • Experience hosting and creating committees that focus on revenue generation
  • Strengthen relationships with service clubs, community leaders, agencies, and industry partners to maximize financial contributions to meet annual target goals
  • Complete grant applications, presentations, impact reports and stewardship events working in collaboration with the Stewardship and Camp team.
  • Implement a Service Club Strategy that focuses on efficiencies and revenue growth.
  • Build and steward both regional and national committees to attain fundraising targets
  • Works cross functionally to identify sponsors and hosts of CFE events
  • This role is a part of the CFE department with a goal of generating $700k/annually in fundraising.
  • Be a proactive, forward-facing representative for DC.
  • Conducts prospect research to identify new contacts, partnerships, and growth opportunities

Volunteer & Intern Engagement (25%)

  • Create and implement the CFE team’s volunteer engagement strategy in a manner that ensures full integration and coordination across Diabetes Canada (DC), while empowering different teams to develop and implement complementary and effective volunteer engagement strategies in their own activities.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure appropriate engagement of volunteers to best support DC, including collaboration regarding partnerships with community leaders, agencies and industry.
  • Lead the student internship and Canada Summer Jobs work program for the team
  • Working with the Senior Manager, Volunteer Engagement to leverage Volunteer Awards, International Volunteer Day and National Volunteer Week to support and recognize valued volunteers as part of DC’s overall volunteer engagement strategies.

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution, or equivalent experience.
  • 2-3 years of fundraising experience
  • 2–3 years of event and volunteer management experience
  • Volunteer Management program certificate is an asset
  • Experience working with CRM systems and utilizing them for volunteer and donor engagement tracking.
  • Familiarity with Imagine Canada’s Standards for Charities and Not-for-Profits, the Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement, and best practices in fundraising.
  • Experience working with service clubs, charitable groups, or fundraising committees.
  • Continued active membership in a National, Provincial or Local Association of Volunteer Administrators is an asset
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and achieve success through teamwork
  • Highly collaborative, with strong multitasking and prioritization skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Some flexibility to travel and to attend evening and weekend events

Working Conditions

  • Evening and Weekend work
  • This position is a full-time hybrid position; candidates will be expected to travel to attend events
  • Candidate must have a valid driver's license and vehicle
  • Travelling for conferences within Canada
