Business Development Representative

Position Summary:

Canada’s electricity sector is experiencing significant growth and transformation. As Canadians electrify their homes and vehicles, integrate renewable energy technologies into the grid and embrace the impact of digital technology, it is crucial to bring together employers, unions, post-secondary institutions and policymakers to address the labour challenges confronting the sector.

Electricity Human Resources Canada (EHRC) is working with its partners to build a world-class, safety-focused, innovative and inclusive electricity workforce. A key element of our work is telling this sector’s stories to various audiences across various channels.

The Business Development Representative will develop new partner relationships and grow revenue sources for Electricity Human Resources Canada in line with our member and sponsorship programs, and product and service offerings. The position will be target-focused with revenue generation expectations and milestones. The candidate must be comfortable making dozens of calls per day, working with channel partners, researching and qualifying prospects, following-up and passing on qualified leads and logging progress. In this role, you can expect to:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Make 50-60 outbound calls and/or emails per week balanced with a possible 50-75 inbound leads/inquiries per week as awareness builds
  • Transfer qualified opportunities to the appropriate team members for further development (as required);
  • Research organizations, identify key players and generate leads and interest;
  • Work collaboratively with EHRC employees and marketing department to drive revenue;
  • Follow-up with leads provided from other EHRC team members;
  • Assist in formulating new product revenue streams and models and vertical business development strategies;
  • Forge and advance relationships with industry leaders, academic institutions, unions and other potential partners.
  • Develop and maintain relationships to generate opportunities for project participation;
  • Track all activities and opportunities in the Client Relationship Management (CRM) system;
  • Assist with preparing reports, scheduling and coordinating meetings, supporting partnership activities;
  • Assist with preparing membership and MOU proposals and presentations, and be ready to attend industry events and meetings; and
  • Other duties in line with the mission and objectives of EHRC as assigned and in alignment with the role.

Education and Experience

  • 1-3 years inside sales, outreach marketing, customer service experience is mandatory, preferably in a B2B (business-to-business) capacity with a demonstrated record of success;
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English;
  • Proficient with corporate productivity tools especially a Client Relationship Management (CRM) system;
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively;
  • Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment;
  • Strong listening and presentation skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; and
  • Affable team player who excels working with team of high performers.

Assets include:

  • Post-Secondary degree/diploma in a relevant discipline;
  • Experience in association membership or sponsorship development;
  • A proven track record in developing strategic partnerships;
  • Understanding of the needs and requirements of electricity and related organizations and related industries in Canada;
  • Bilingual French and English; and
  • Specific experience with Insightly CRM.

Work Environment

  • Ottawa-based, hybrid work environment (minimum 3 days in office per week after probation and four days per week until then).
  • Small office with a team of about 15 staff.
  • Close to public transport, paid parking available, local amenities nearby.
  • Some travel across Canada is required.

Compensation and Benefits

  • This is a one year term contract with the possibility of an extension.
  • Salary: $56,000 to $64,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Potential annual bonus of 10% linked to achievement of measurable objectives.
