Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Manager, Health Promotion & Community Relations and working within the objectives of the program, the Group Facilitator (focus on the Sexual and Gender Diverse communities) will assist, support and co-facilitate two weekly social support drop-in programs targeting Sexual and Gender Diverse communities (i.e. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Questioning, 2 Spirit communities) at the East Mississauga Community Health Centre (EMCHC). Our QX and Transactivate program aims to promote healthy, safe, and proud Sexual and Gender Diverse communities by providing support and resources, reducing social exclusion and improving access to health and social services. The Group Facilitator is expected to work from 5:30-8:30pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. This position will also provide leadership, assistance and support to individuals in a determinants of health philosophy, by considering risk factors (medical, social, psychological and environment) in a manner which can be understood by the client. 

EMCHC is a branch of LAMP CHC, a community-based charitable organization that believes in creating greater access to health resources in the community. We provide health care services, health promotion programs, and community support services. We provide services to everyone and we make increased efforts to make our services and programs available to isolated seniors, racialized individuals and communities, people living in poverty, immigrants and refugees, and Sexual and Gender Diverse communities (i.e. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Questioning, 2 Spirit communities) and individuals.

Primary Responsibilities

•   Plan, prepare for, and co-facilitate weekly drop-in for Sexual and Gender Diverse adults in Peel

•   Organize occasional outings and special topic sessions

•   Conduct community outreach to enhance participation and engagement of priority groups

•   Conduct evaluations of participant experiences

•   Maintain files and compile reports, where appropriate

•   Perform administrative duties as required 

Required Qualifications

•   2-5 years working experience and/or lived experience with Sexual and Gender Diverse populations

•   Excellent group facilitation skills, with experience co-facilitating marginalized groups

•   Experience with conflict-resolution approaches in groups

•   Demonstrated client focus, empathy and communication skills

•   Demonstrated understanding of Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression frameworks in practice

•   Strong knowledge of resources in Peel, specifically the Sexual and Gender Diverse inclusive services in Peel and the GTA

•   Understanding of the specific needs of Sexual and Gender Diverse communities in Peel Region

•   Ability to work with community led advisory committees to plan programming

•   Ability to work independently, and within a co-facilitation team

•   Excellent organizational and time-management skills

•   Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent work and community experience

•   Current Vulnerable Sector Screening results which meet the requirements of the position.
