About the Role

Reporting to the Vice President, Supply Chain, the Procurement Manager, National Food Programs, works collaboratively with industry, stakeholders and the food bank network across Canada, in the strategic procurement of product, with a focus on increasing the quality and quantity of nutritious food and services shared with the network.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Manage the planning, execution, and improvement of assigned national procurement programs aligning with organizational goals and network needs
  • Oversee all procurement activities, including routine, ad-hoc, large-scale, emergency, and donor-directed purchases
  • Ensure programs meet the needs of the network, from small rural areas to large urban centers, while maintaining high levels of customer service
  • Increase program penetration and utilization by evaluating and understanding network purchasing needs and provide consultative services to ensure the program is being optimized and barriers to participation removed
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers to secure high-quality products at the best possible value
  • Lead negotiations with vendors to maximize cost savings to achieve the best value for Food Banks Canada and the network
  • Design, implement, and continuously refine procurement initiatives and strategies that deliver significant value across the network.
  • Utilize, enhance, and leverage existing procurement tools, systems, and resources to ensure procurement programs offer extraordinary value to the network
  • Oversee the financial aspects of procurement programs including rebates, budgets, timelines, reporting, and analytics
  • Develop and manage communication and marketing strategies of procurement programs to increase awareness, understanding, and drive network knowledge and participation
  • Provide leadership to direct reports through coaching, mentorship and managing performance
  • Administrative tasks and other duties as assigned

What You Will Need

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 4 years purchasing and/or food acquisition experience, with a track record of successful results and the proven ability to build and maintain donor/industry relationship
  • Proven negotiation skills and ability to lead large-scale purchase negotiations and establish long-term strategic relationships
  • Demonstrated initiative, action-oriented with a strong sense of urgency
  • Budget and financial management experience
  • Project/program management experience
  • Knowledge of food manufacturing operations is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively work with multiple stakeholders to solve complex problems
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset

Working Conditions

  • Full-time, Monday-Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work
  • This position is remote and may be based anywhere in Canada
