Reports to: Manager Integrated Gender-Based Violence Services

Location: Hamilton, ON

Hours of Work:  37.5 hours/week

Contract Start Date: TBD

Contract End Date: March 31, 2026

This role provides comprehensive case management and system navigation to women and gender-diverse people experiencing violence through a gender-based violence hub focused on prevention, support, and economic empowerment. This role ensures that women and gender-diverse people receive comprehensive, connected, and person-centered care by helping participants connect with appropriate services, provides guidance, and maintains regular contact to ensure the individuals are supported and connected as their situation changes. This role facilitates group workshops that address a broad range of topics of which YWCA has specialized knowledge including emotional wellbeing, housing, gender-based violence, and healthy relationships

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

       Deliver case management and system navigation services to women and their families who are experiencing or at risk of experiencing gender-based or intimate partner violence including; support with connecting to appropriate mental health, health care, housing, and social services and assistance in rebuilding social networks and connections. 

       Work collaboratively with the Gender-Based Violence team in order to ensure program delivery to all clients.

       Conducts intake meetings and assessments of clients/residents to identify client trauma needs; 

       Provides guidance on the types of programs and services available in the community that might be beneficial in an immediate and ongoing basis.

       Applies the knowledge of the issues of trauma and the dynamics of woman abuse to develop and implement effective support strategies; 

       Works within general rules, procedures and standards, referring issues or problems to direct supervisor; 

       Maintains professional documentation and recordkeeping standards in a system for reports and statistics on client interactions; 

       Communicates, advocates and collaborates with community agencies (e.g. courts, legal services, housing) to provide resources and services to clients/residents; 

       Offers clients crisis intervention, supportive counselling, referrals and advocacy; 

       Provides programming and facilitates group workshops (e.g. safety plans, healthy relationships, impact of trauma on children); 

       Provides crisis intervention and counselling support for women and their children; 

       Maintains high level of confidentiality when working with sensitive and personal client, employee and contract information; 

       Maintains accurate records/statistics and evaluation information related to the activities undertaken/outcomes achieved; 

       Implements appropriate program guidelines and procedures/templates for program to ensure consistency and excellence; 

       Provides program reports to Manager as required; 

       Attends industry related networking events and representing the YWCA on community committees; 

       Understands and incorporates emerging trends, leading practices, industry professional standards; 

       Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values; 

       Performs other duties as required. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

       37.5 hours / week; 

       Occasional evening and weekend work is required 

Qualifications

 

       Completion of 2 years’ college in social work or human services, or equivalent; 

       3 years’ experience working in social services, with violence against women services and supportive counselling an asset; 

       Strong knowledge and experience in group or workshop facilitation; 

       Working knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act and Family Law is an asset; 

       Experience in trauma-informed counselling and education;

       Excellent communication skills; 

       Must be able to work from a feminist, anti-racist/anti-oppressive perspective; 

       Ability to work a schedule which includes days, afternoons, weekday and/or occasional weekends; 

       Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police check or willing to obtain at own cost; 

       Must have current Emergency First Aid and CPR certificate or willing to obtain at own cost; 

       Knowledge of community resources in the violence against women sector;

       Bilingual English/French or other languages is an asset
