New Beginnings Recovery Home is one of Canada’s first BIPOC-owned residential addiction and mental health treatment centres. Based in the GTA, we provide trauma-informed, culturally safe care to underserved communities.

We’re looking for a compassionate, licensed physician to join our team, providing initial assessments for clients entering our 28-day residential recovery program.

Role Overview

You will conduct medical assessments to determine each client’s eligibility, safety, and readiness for residential addiction treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform intake assessments for incoming clients
  • Review client history (substance use, mental health, medications, etc.)
  • Identify contraindications, risks, and detox needs
  • Provide clearance for residential stay OR refer to alternate care when necessary
  • Supervise overall treatment plan of clients and sign off on it
  • Document findings in alignment with privacy and healthcare regulations
  • Collaborate with our intake team and provide clinical direction when needed

Qualifications

  • MD licensed to practice in Ontario
  • Member in good standing with CPSO
  • Must be able to bill OHIP directly for assessments and eligible counselling services (e.g. K codes)
  • Experience in addiction medicine, mental health, or family medicine preferred
  • Comfortable using virtual care platforms
  • Trauma-informed and equity-centered approach

Time Commitment

  • Flexible scheduling (evenings/weekends available)
  • Assessments typically range from 20- 40 minutes per client

Compensation

  • Hourly rate + competitive per-assessment rate
    (Both negotiable based on experience)

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be Ontario-licensed and eligible to bill OHIP directly
  • A collaboration agreement will be required
  • Physician bills OHIP for counselling services delivered by New Beginnings staff (e.g., social workers, psychotherapists)
  • Physician remits a portion of billed funds to New Beginnings
  • In return, the physician receives client referrals, access to qualified staff, clinical infrastructure, and administrative support
