New Beginnings Recovery Home is proud to be among Canada’s first BIPOC-owned residential addiction and mental health facilities. Located in the Greater Toronto Area, we specialize in trauma-informed, culturally grounded care, particularly for underserved and marginalized populations.

We are currently seeking a compassionate and licensed physician to join our team either virtually or in person to support client admissions into our 28-day residential treatment program.

Position Summary

You will be responsible for conducting intake medical assessments, determining whether clients are clinically appropriate and stable enough to begin residential treatment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete intake evaluations for new clients
  • Review health history, substance use, medication use, and mental health background
  • Assess for withdrawal risks, medical concerns, or contraindications
  • Provide medical clearance for admission or redirect to alternate care if needed
  • Supervise and sign off on individualized treatment plans
  • Maintain documentation in accordance with privacy laws and regulatory standards
  • Work in collaboration with the intake team to offer clinical guidance

Candidate Requirements

  • Fully licensed MD in Ontario (CPSO member in good standing)
  • Eligible to bill OHIP directly
  • Familiarity with K-code billing or equivalent counselling service codes
  • Background in addiction medicine, mental health, or primary care is an asset
  • Experience with virtual care delivery platforms preferred
  • Must embody a trauma-informed, equity-driven approach to client care

Time Commitment

  • Flexible hours (evenings and weekends available)
  • Intake assessments typically range from 20 to 40 minutes per client

Compensation Structure

  • Hourly rate plus per-assessment pay (both negotiable based on experience)

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to bill OHIP directly
  • A collaborative agreement will be required

Under this model:

  • Physician bills OHIP for eligible counselling sessions provided by our staff (e.g., social workers, psychotherapists)
  • A portion of those billings is remitted back to New Beginnings
  • In return, the physician receives client referrals, access to qualified staff, clinical infrastructure, and administrative support
