New Beginnings Recovery Home is proud to be among Canada’s first BIPOC-owned residential addiction and mental health facilities. Located in the Greater Toronto Area, we specialize in trauma-informed, culturally grounded care, particularly for underserved and marginalized populations.
We are currently seeking a compassionate and licensed physician to join our team either virtually or in person to support client admissions into our 28-day residential treatment program.
Position Summary
You will be responsible for conducting intake medical assessments, determining whether clients are clinically appropriate and stable enough to begin residential treatment.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete intake evaluations for new clients
- Review health history, substance use, medication use, and mental health background
- Assess for withdrawal risks, medical concerns, or contraindications
- Provide medical clearance for admission or redirect to alternate care if needed
- Supervise and sign off on individualized treatment plans
- Maintain documentation in accordance with privacy laws and regulatory standards
- Work in collaboration with the intake team to offer clinical guidance
Candidate Requirements
- Fully licensed MD in Ontario (CPSO member in good standing)
- Eligible to bill OHIP directly
- Familiarity with K-code billing or equivalent counselling service codes
- Background in addiction medicine, mental health, or primary care is an asset
- Experience with virtual care delivery platforms preferred
- Must embody a trauma-informed, equity-driven approach to client care
Time Commitment
- Flexible hours (evenings and weekends available)
- Intake assessments typically range from 20 to 40 minutes per client
Compensation Structure
- Hourly rate plus per-assessment pay (both negotiable based on experience)
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to bill OHIP directly
- A collaborative agreement will be required
Under this model:
- Physician bills OHIP for eligible counselling sessions provided by our staff (e.g., social workers, psychotherapists)
- A portion of those billings is remitted back to New Beginnings
- In return, the physician receives client referrals, access to qualified staff, clinical infrastructure, and administrative support
