The Long Point Biosphere Region https://longpointbiosphere.com/  is seeking interpretive guides for our education and outreach Programs. LPBR is one of 19 UNESCO designated Biospheres in Canada  https://biospherecanada.ca/ recognized for unique conservation value, iconic landscapes, and commitment to sustainable development. We work closely with non profit and private sector partners to deliver education programs to students, residents and visitors. 

Location: Norfolk County, Ontario

Hours of Work: Casual

Renumeration: $30 per hour

Job Description:

Interpretive guides will deliver environmental education programs to adults, families, visitors, and primary and secondary school students within the Long Point Biosphere Region (approximately the Norfolk County boundaries) including: 

•       Leading day and night interpretive hikes exploring local flora and fauna

•       Delivering nature-based curricula (Lessons in a Backpack) to elementary and secondary school students including Backyard Feeder Watch, Host Gardens, and field trips to the Long Point Bird Observatory and other outdoor sites.

•       Assisting LPBR road ecologists to deliver interpretive programming at the seasonal Long Point Eco-Adventures Turtle Hatchery

•       Lead volunteers on ecological restoration efforts

•       Participate in public educational and outreach activities and events

Qualifications

•        University degree, college diploma or a combination of relevant experience in environmental studies and/or environmental education.

•        Experience leading guided hikes and/or public presentations. 

•        Previous work experience in public outreach and environmental education.

•        Strong knowledge of regional geography, flora and fauna.

•        Be comfortable handling reptiles for educational purposes.
