Surrey Orcas Water Polo Club is one of British Columbia’s largest and fastest-growing water polo clubs, with over $1M in annual operations. We are proud to be guided by a strong, female-led board and supported by an experienced coaching team led by Vladimir Ushakov, a former Olympian. Our club fosters a positive, inclusive, and athlete-centered culture. We offer programming for all levels—from grassroots to high-performance—and align with Water Polo Canada’s LTDSPA (Long-Term Development in Sport and Physical Activity) model to support long-term athlete development and enjoyment.
The General Manager (GM) plays a key leadership role in overseeing day-to-day operations and advancing the club’s strategic goals. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the GM works closely with the Head Coach, Club President, and staff to ensure smooth program delivery, effective communication, and strong community engagement. This is a dynamic role that blends operations, planning, and relationship management in a mission-driven environment.
Lead and manage club operations, finances, and strategic initiatives in collaboration with the Board
Support coach hiring, onboarding, development, and performance evaluation
Oversee logistics for travel, competition schedules, and special events
Promote athlete development pathways, including NCAA and Team Canada opportunities
Manage internal and external communications (website, email, newsletters, social media)
Build and maintain strong relationships with athletes, families, volunteers, and community partners
Represent the club in communications with Water Polo West and Water Polo Canada to advocate for quality programming and equity across the sport
Ensure compliance with all club policies and uphold Safe Sport and athlete safety standards
Demonstrated leadership in sport, non-profit, or club management
Excellent organizational, budgeting, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities, take initiative, and work independently
Familiarity with Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) and Safe Sport principles
Experience in aquatics or high-performance sport is an asset
Comfortable using Google Workspace; basic website and social media management experience preferred
Hours: 30 hours/week (August–June); 15 hours/week (July)
Flexibility: Mostly remote, with in-person attendance required for monthly events or meetings
Optional Coaching: Coaching hours may be added for qualified candidates to create a full-time role
Compensation: $45,000–$60,000 annually, based on experience and total hours worked (equivalent to $29–$40/hour)
