SUPERVISOR, GENERAL ACCOUNTING:

$86,007.24 - $97,679.59 Annually

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Comptroller, the Supervisor, General Accounting, provides guidance and support to Accounting Technicians and Accountants within the Accounting team, oversees the Commission’s daily transactions, ensures the accuracy of financial information, and meets all financial deadlines. He/She/They also oversees monthly Corporate Purchasing Card (p-card) audits to ensure all p-card transactions adhere to respective policies and procedures.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate will have the following:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce, business administration, finance, or public administration, or other relevant field.
  • Member in good standing of the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Association.
  • Sound accounting experience in large and computerized accounting operations in the public or non-profit sector, including experience in the preparation of financial statements and the supervision of projects and staff.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience acceptable to the Employer.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Considerable knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of accounting and financial administration
  • Sound knowledge of supervisory and performance management practices
  • Sound knowledge of internal control systems and procedures and generally accepted accounting principles in the government and non-profit sectors
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in relevant applications, including Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to learn, understand, and apply the Commission’s programs and operating requirements, relevant legislation, and the role of central agencies
  • Ability to coach, lead, motivate and supervise staff.
  • Ability to analyze complex accounting matters and develop solutions for implementation
  • Ability to deal with clients with diplomacy and tact and provide accounting advice to staff with non-financial backgrounds
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, when working with financial information
