New Beginnings Recovery Home is one of Canada’s first BIPOC-owned residential addiction and mental health treatment centres. Located in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), we specialize in trauma-informed, culturally safe care for underserved communities.
We are currently seeking a compassionate, licensed psychiatrist to join our team. You will play a key role in conducting intake assessments for clients entering our 28-day residential recovery program. There is also potential to co-facilitate group therapy sessions (at an adjusted rate).
You will conduct psychiatric and medical intake assessments to determine each client’s eligibility, readiness, and safety for residential addiction treatment.
• Conduct intake assessments for incoming residential clients
• Review client history (e.g., substance use, psychiatric diagnoses, medications, co-morbidities)
• Identify any contraindications, risks, or detox needs
• Provide clearance for admission or refer to alternate levels of care as clinically indicated
• Supervise and sign off on individualized treatment plans
• Collaborate with our intake and clinical teams; provide direction as needed
• Optional: Co-facilitate group sessions (separately compensated)
• MD with FRCPC in Psychiatry
• Licensed to practice in Ontario
• Member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
• Eligible to bill OHIP directly or under a group billing arrangement for psychiatric assessments and counselling (e.g., K-codes)
• Experience in addiction medicine, mental health, or family medicine preferred
• Comfortable delivering care via virtual platforms
• Committed to a trauma-informed and equity-centered model of care
• Flexible scheduling (evenings/weekends available)
• Assessments typically range from 20–40 minutes per client
A combination of the following may be offered based on scope of work and mutual agreement:
• Competitive hourly rate
• Revenue split on eligible OHIP-billable services (e.g., K-codes, psychiatric assessments)
• Per-assessment fees for comprehensive evaluations or admission-related consultations
All rates are negotiable based on experience.
• Willing to enter into a collaborative billing agreement with New Beginnings
• Group billing registration with OHIP will be required to submit claims for eligible services delivered by New Beginnings’ allied health staff (e.g., social workers, psychotherapists)
• OHIP-billed revenue will be shared between the physician and New Beginnings based on a mutually agreed split
• In return, the physician will receive:
o Consistent client referrals
o Access to qualified support staff
o Clinical infrastructure (e.g., charting system, treatment planning tools)
o Administrative support for scheduling, documentation, and billing
