Victim Services Toronto (VST) is seeking a highly skilled Social Worker and Anti-Human Trafficking Case Advocate to provide trauma-informed care and case advocacy support to victims and survivors of sex trafficking. This role involves delivering immediate and short-term case management focused on trauma-informed care, practical assistance, and advocacy services. The ideal candidate will work closely with law enforcement, community partners, and other victim support services to address the unique needs of clients and ensure they receive the care and support they need to rebuild their lives. 

The standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.

Key Responsibilities:

Case Management and Client Support: 

  • Receive referrals from the Toronto Police Service Human Trafficking Enforcement Team and Victim Services Toronto’s other programs.  
  • Provide on-scene assistance and in-person or remote case management to victims and survivors. 
  • Conduct comprehensive needs assessments to identify individual goals and develop personalized support plans with clients. 
  • Offer compassionate, non-judgmental, culturally responsive, client-centered, and trauma-informed therapeutic interventions. 
  • Advocate for clients to ensure access to essential services, including financial support, housing, emergency travel, and other community resources. 

Collaboration and Advocacy: 

  • Collaborate with law enforcement, mental health professionals, social services providers, and victim support agencies to ensure coordinated care and advocacy for clients. 
  • Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with community partners to enhance the continuum of care. 
  • Engage in community outreach efforts to develop new partnerships and strengthen existing ones, supporting the needs of survivors. 

Victim Quick Response Program+ (VQRP+) Administration: 

  • Conduct eligibility assessments and submit applications for financial assistance under the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services’ (MCCSS) Victim Quick Response Program+ (VQRP+). 
  • Meet with clients to collect necessary documentation and submit completed applications to the MCCSS in a timely manner. 
  • Ensure that all paperwork and documentation for VQRP+ is accurately completed and submitted weekly for billing and invoicing purposes. 

Professional Development and Training: 

  • Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and professional development activities to stay current with best practices in victim services, human trafficking, trauma-informed care, and other relevant fields. 

Documentation and Reporting: 

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and ethical case notes, ensuring that documentation is completed and submitted in accordance with agency policies and professional standards after each client interaction. 
  • Assist with any additional administrative duties or responsibilities as assigned for the program related to the role. 

Qualifications and Skills:   

  • Diploma or degree in Social Work, Social Services, Psychology, or a related field. 
  • Must be registered or eligible for registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). 
  • A minimum of 3 years of direct case management experience working with survivors of human trafficking or related vulnerable populations. 
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, gender-based violence, and the unique needs of survivors of sex trafficking. 
  • Proven ability to conduct comprehensive needs assessments, develop case plans, and provide advocacy and assistance to clients in crisis. 
  • Strong crisis intervention skills with the ability to build trust and establish rapport with clients. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and collaboratively with law enforcement, service providers, and community partners. 
  • Commitment to anti-oppressive, culturally competent, and trauma-informed practices. 
  • Ability to maintain accurate and timely case notes in compliance with ethical and organizational standards. 
  • Thorough understanding of harm reduction and sex-positive practices.    
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, access, and connect clients with relevant community resources, including those specific to 2SLGBTQ+ and mental health supports, with the capacity to develop a strong understanding of local resources. 
  • Commitment, knowledge, training and experience in intersectionality, antiracism, anti-oppression, discrimination, and decolonizing practices.      
  • Ability to contribute to the diversity of Victim Service Toronto's workforce and its inclusive, anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices.    
  • Experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, and equity deserving populations.    
  • Demonstrated understanding of best practices, legal, and ethical requirements for case note documentation. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social work theories relevant to victim support and the Stages of Change model, with practical application in case management and support for survivors of crime and trafficking. 

 Additional Assets: 

  • Knowledge of community resources and support services for trafficking survivors and their families. 
  • Experience with the VQRP+ program is an asset. 
  • Fluency in a second language is considered an asset. 

Other Requirements:   

  • Successful completion of a criminal background check  
  • Valid G level Driver’ License in good standing is required
