Employment Type: Contract position September 8, 2025, to December 31, 2025, with possibility of extension; 37.5 hours/week, including occasional evenings and weekends.
Compensation: $20–23/hour

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION
The Diefenbunker is Canada’s most significant surviving Cold War artifact — it is an impressive four-storey underground facility that operated as the country’s central communications headquarters during the Cold War, ready at any moment in case of a nuclear attack. Today, it is a one-of-a-kind museum and national historic site, telling stories of national and international importance and welcoming visitors from around the world.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Education and Programs Coordinator is responsible for the development, delivery, and facilitation of public programs and educational programs for all museum audiences, both on site and off site. This consists of coordinating the museum’s educational and public program assets for groups, youth camps, seasonal programming, outreach, and other learning experiences.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, deliver, and implement educational and public programs for diverse audiences that align with the strategic directions of the organization and integrate the museum’s unique brand and story;
Implement a variety of learning strategies to engage diverse audiences in programming;
Review and develop educational programs to integrate with new and ongoing exhibitions, and ensure they comply with Ontario and Quebec Curriculum;
Develop, plan, and coordinate partnerships with local educational institutions, integrating the Diefenbunker during Cold War studies;
Review and implement educational materials related to digital exhibitions;
Broaden the museum’s outreach by building a database of and maintaining communications with relevant educators and community groups;
Design pre-and post-visit materials for school groups;
Develop, plan, and coordinate public and educational programs for a wider audience including adult, adaptable, and off-site groups;
Develop outcomes and performance measures for all learning activities, and regularly monitor and evaluate program performance;
Assist with training and supporting frontline staff on educational and public programs;
Assist the Operations Manager in developing an annual outreach strategy;
Assist with preparing and coordinating promotional and marketing information for educational and public programs;
Collaborate with the Marketing team to use video and social media content to enhance and distribute educational and program opportunities;
Support with grant writing when applicable;
Contribute program data to written reports as required;
Provide input into broader museum processes, such as the development of the annual budget and work plan;
Support with site coverage for daily operations as needed.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Ability to provide Vulnerable Sector Check;
Degree or diploma in education, event planning, project management, or relevant field is preferred;
1-2 years of professional experience in a relevant role or setting;
Excellent organizational and multitasking skills;
Advanced oral and written communication skills;
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel;
Experience tracking expenses;
Functional in both official languages;
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
POSITION ASSETS
Experience public speaking and facilitating large groups;
Ability to set priorities and plan deliverables;
Proficient with design software;
Ability to produce and edit short format videos;
Interest in history.
