About Us:

Rowan House Society provides a safe Emergency Shelter and community-based programs to support individuals and families impacted by domestic violence and abuse in the Foothills area. We are dedicated to empowering our clients and fostering a community free from violence and abuse.

 

Please note: On September 2, 2025 Rowan House Society will be transitioning to a pet-friendly Emergency Shelter.

 

The Opportunity: Human Resources Generalist As our HR Generalist, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring Rowan House Society remains a positive, compliant, and thriving workplace. You'll be the go-to person for all things HR, supporting our dedicated staff and leadership team. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on managing diverse HR functions, values data privacy, and is committed to fostering a supportive organizational culture.

 

Key Responsibilities You'll Own:

  • HR Leadership & Compliance: Develop and maintain HR policies aligned with Alberta's employment laws (Employment Standards, Human Rights, OHS). You'll be key in promoting a culture of collaboration and client-focused care that aligns with Rowan House Society’s mission, vision and values.
  • Talent Acquisition & Onboarding: Manage the end-to-end recruitment process, from crafting engaging job descriptions and posting ads to conducting interviews and coordinating hiring. You'll ensure a smooth and welcoming onboarding experience for every new team member. Additionally, being a support for staff members who are leaving the organization.
  • Employee Support & Relations: Be the primary contact for all employee inquiries, providing guidance on policies, benefits, and payroll. You'll play a crucial role in maintaining confidential employee records and ensuring data integrity.
  • Performance & Development: Guide our leadership team on best practices for hiring, performance reviews, and employee relations. You'll support initiatives that foster growth and development within the organization.
  • Compensation & Benefits: Assist with competitive compensation reviews and administer our employee benefits programs, ensuring our team is well-supported.
  • Payroll & Administration Support: Monitor timesheets, provide backup for bi-weekly payroll, and assist with general office administration, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.

 

What You Bring:

  • Education and/or Experience:
    • Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
    • A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in office administration or human resources, ideally within a non-profit organization.
  • HR Expertise: Proficient knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards, Human Rights legislation, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations, and other relevant federal and provincial laws.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems like Ceridian Dayforce/Powerpay.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional confidentiality, strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills, analytical and problem-solving abilities, and a proven capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. You are a self-motivated team player with strong organizational skills. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality is essential.
  • Values Alignment: An understanding of the effects of domestic violence and abuse, knowledge of trauma-informed practices, and a commitment to cultural humility, diversity, and equality. Awareness of the unique cultural and spiritual needs of Indigenous communities is highly valued.

  • Valid driver’s license with a clear driver’s abstract and reliable transportation

 

Working Conditions: This position is primarily located at our Emergency Shelter in High River with satellite offices in Okotoks. This position has the option for flexibility in work location including partial work from home / remote arrangements for the right candidate.
