Development Manager

Job Summary: Aunt Leah’s is seeking a Development Manager to help shape and grow our mission-driven fundraising efforts. If you're passionate about building sustainable revenue streams, cultivating meaningful donor relationships, and mentoring a dynamic team—all in service of supporting youth in care and young families—this is the opportunity for you. As a key member of the Development leadership team, you will oversee a team of two direct reports and play a vital role in supervising fundraising operations, gift processing, and grant coordination. You’ll collaborate with the Director of Development & Communications to guide strategic planning, lead a robust grants portfolio, and enhance donor stewardship—all while building a culture of accountability, learning, and impact.

 

Reports To: Director of Development & Communications

 

Compensation: $78, 000K

 

Qualifications:

•       Diploma in Grants & Fundraising, or a degree in Business, Social Services, or a related field.

•       Minimum of 2 years of experience in grant writing and managing a grants portfolio, preferably including government and significant philanthropic funders, charitable sector.

•       At least 2 years of supervisory experience.

•       A minimum of 5 years of work experience, with demonstrates expertise in grants management and a strong understanding of broader annual fundraising practices.

 

Requirements:

•       Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable persons) and Local Police Information Check

•       Adherence to the Aunt Leah’s Code of Ethics

•       Follows Aunt Leah’s Practice Guidelines

 

Assets:

•       A valid BC driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

•       Member of Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) or Canadian Fundraising Executive (CFRE) Certification is an asset

•       Demonstrated understanding of Charitable Regulatory System

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA):

•       Solid understanding of donor-centered fundraising principles and techniques.

•       Demonstrated interest in and understanding of social justice issues, including social inclusion, diversity, and equity.

•       Strong research skills, ideally with knowledge of public policy and programming relevant to fundraising strategies.

•       Experience working with fundraising databases; Salesforce proficiency is a strong asset.

•       Demonstrated ability to align fundraising strategies with organizational mission, program priorities, and funder interests.

•       Knowledge of the charitable regulatory environment (an asset).

•       Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex ideas and inspire action.

•       Ability to influence and persuade a variety of stakeholders through compelling messaging, storytelling, and relationship-building.

•       Exceptional interpersonal skills, with empathy and compassion for individuals facing functional, social, or economic barriers.

•       Collaborative team player and relationship-builder with the ability to foster positive internal and external partnerships.

•       Well-developed coordination, organizational, and planning abilities.

•       Strong analytical thinking, sound judgment, and problem-solving skills.

•       Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).

•       Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities with minimal supervision.

•       Open to giving and receiving constructive feedback, with a focus on team and individual development.

•       Proactively seeks opportunities to learn and improve; demonstrates curiosity and a commitment to continuous growth.

 

Essential Functions:

Grant and Fund Development

•       Ensures timely submission of grant proposals and compliance with all reporting requirements.

•       Maintains a comprehensive funder pipeline to support the timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports.

•       Conducts and curates research on new prospective funders.

•       Leads the proposal and reporting process across the organization, delegating components to appropriate staff as needed.

•       Contributes revenue forecast information to organizational financial plans and budgets.

 Annual Giving & Stewardship

•       Prepares and delivers high-quality proposals and reports for leadership donors and major gift prospects.

•       Collaborates with the Communications & Marketing team to develop and implement strategic donor communications through channels such as social media, the Annual Report, Annual Giving campaigns, gift acknowledgments, web content, invitations, and press releases.

•       Maintains and strengthens a best-practice donor stewardship program.

•       Supports the planning and execution of stewardship events, including creating plans and budgets to increase donor engagement and build long-term loyalty.

•       Contributes to donor and funder tracking through accurate database management.

 

Leadership and Supervision

•       Supervises development staff and volunteers, including roles related to gift processing and grant support.

•       Participates in staff development activities, departmental meetings, and training as required.

•       Contributes to departmental planning and budgeting efforts.

 

 Standards of Practice

•       Maintains confidentiality and demonstrates a high degree of accuracy in managing sensitive information.

•       Contributes to a collaborative, respectful, and team-oriented organizational culture.

•       Represents the organization professionally and ethically to uphold and enhance Aunt Leah’s public reputation.

•       Works closely with program and finance teams to ensure accurate and timely impact reporting.

•       Supports overall organizational financial planning through the provision of reliable fundraising revenue forecasts.

 

Working Conditions:

•       This position may require working occasional evenings and weekends and travel to various locations within Metro Vancouver

•       Works primarily in an office setting from the Seymour (1101 Seymour St #333, Vancouver, BC) and New Westminster (816 20th Street, New Westminster, BC) head office.

•       Hours of work 37.5 hours per week; (7.5 hours a day) generally Monday to Friday (9:00 am to 5:00 pm); with the ability to be flexible as per business needs.
