Job Title: Communications/Social Media Coordinator (Union-exempt)
Reports To: Executive Director
Position Type: Temporary Contract 10 hours per week for 6 months.
Location: Langley, BC
Salary: $25 per hour
Position Summary
The Communications/Social Media Coordinator is responsible for creating and implementing an impactful communications strategy that promotes our programs, advances our mission, and strengthens our brand presence. The Communications/Social Media Coordinator is a union-exempt position. This role will develop key messages, share important information about gender-based violence (GBV) and intimate partner violence (IPV), and create content about feminism, confidentiality, trauma-informed, and women-centred.
Key Responsibilities
Communications & Messaging
• Develop and implement a communications strategy that defines the organization’s
core messages.
• Create clear, compelling content that aligns with the communications strategy. Support
the creation of advocacy messages related to IPV and GBV.
Content Creation
• Produce 2–3 engaging social media posts per week on various platforms.
• Write and design 1 quarterly newsletter (knowledge of Keela is an asset).
• Update and improve website content to align with communication strategy.
• Develop branded materials such as PowerPoint presentations, email templates, email
signatures, and other resources.
Design & Branding
• Improve and maintain design elements for communications (currently using Canva).
• Ensure consistency in branding across all platforms and materials.
• Support the design and purchasing of Ishtar branded swag.
Skills & Qualifications
• Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in communications, marketing,
public relations, or a related field.
• Strong written communication skills with the ability to adapt tone and style for different
audiences.
• Knowledge of gender-based violence, feminist frameworks, and trauma-informed
approaches are an asset.
• Experience with social media content creation and management (Instagram and
Facebook).
• Basic graphic design skills (Canva or similar tools).
• Experience with Keela or similar CRM/newsletter platforms is an asset.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
