About the Position:

The Intermediate Accountant ensures the accuracy and compliance of financial records with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and established internal controls.  This position involves analyzing, producing, and reconciling financial statements, monitoring cash flows, and preparing documentation for audits.  The Intermediate Accountant also assists in directing clerical staff and provides financial reports required by senior management.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures financial recording accuracy and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and established internal controls and procedures
  • Investigates and resolve unusual or questionable financial entries and account balances
  • Codes, records, and posts transactions in journals and the general ledger, including complex transactions such as lease, amortization, and major asset acquisitions
  • Oversees journal entries and general ledger maintenance
  • Analysis and reconciliation of account balance, implementing necessary adjustment
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual budgets and cash flow projections, financial statements, and other financial reports required by senior management, board of directors, regulatory bodies and funders
  • Works with the Accounting Manager in providing direction to clerical staff and ensures that assigned tasks are completed
  • Reviews and prepares audit working papers to support internal and external audits
  • Recommends improvements to accounting practices, financial systems, and internal controls to enhance organizational efficiency
  • Performs other special projects as required

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • Canadian Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) certification preferred
  • 3 to 5 years of accounting experience, with a focus on financial reporting and analysis
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Working knowledge of Great Plains and YARDI is an asset
