Are you passionate about community engagement and building brand visibility? Do you have a solid background in graphic design, story telling and brand development? The Insurance Brokers Association of Alberta (IBAA) is looking for you to fill the role of Communications Specialist. This person will enjoy a happy medium of creative design, e-marketing, web development and writing on a daily basis, and will get opportunities to contribute to strategy around IBAA’s creative direction.

 

Job Summary: As Communications Specialist, you will report to the Membership & Communications Manager. You will primarily be responsible for the development and oversight of IBAA’s communications portfolio and brand. You will also develop and disseminate content for our electronic and print messaging, create multi-page publications for our members and AGMs, logo and asset design for events such as IBAA Convention, take meeting minutes, write press releases where necessary, develop designs and messaging on website projects, among other tasks.

Job Duties:

  • Collaborate with management to develop and implement an effective communications and brand strategy based on our needs, and in keeping with our mission and vision
  • Design and distribute internal and external communications pieces to push engagement with our membership such as membership emails, surveys, magazine articles (where necessary) and other resources
  • Collaborate on strategic direction for marketing campaigns
  • Revise and refresh our brand guidelines and strategy to solidify our brand recognition and enhance visibility
  • Create banners, graphics and marketing assets for our general communications
  • Create high quality designs and layout for communications materials such as brochures, event programs, newsletters, posters, print ads, textbooks, booklets, toolkits etc.
  • Proofread and edit external messaging, as well as writing in a way that simplifies technical language for our audience
  • Brand conceptualization, logo and asset design for major events and projects, for e.g., IBAA Convention
  • Write and proofread press releases, messages from IBAAs senior leadership, eDirects/eBlasts
  • Design templated collateral in keeping with brand guidelines, including elements and templates for professional development
  • Create designs, layout and copy for website projects
  • Conduct website updates (where required)
  • Field inquiries around member resources and media requests
  • Track and report on members’ engagement with the organization’s email communications
  • Identify and share insights on market trends to increase the output of the role
  • Take minutes at board and executive meetings to inform member communications

 

Job Requirements:

 

•         An excellent knowledge and command of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly In-Design and Illustrator; Photoshop is an asset

•         Strong proficiency in Canva

•         Strong proficiency in MailChimp

•         A good knowledge of web design; knowledge of HTML is an asset

•         A good working knowledge of Survey Monkey and other survey platforms

•         Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word, PowerPoint and Excel

•         Excellent time management

•         Strong organizational skills

•         High level of professionalism

•         Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing

•         Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands

•         Ability to pivot and respond quickly in a dynamic and changing environment

•         Ability to produce work quickly (when necessary)

•         Strong attention to detail

•         Very creative

 

Education:

 

A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Design, Fine Arts, Journalism or a related field is required.

Certification in Graphic Design is an asset.

 

Experience:

 

Minimum three years’ experience working in communications, design or publication

 

Work Conditions:

 

•         Operation of desktop computer and peripherals

•         Hybrid schedule with quarterly floater day

•         Interaction with employees, management, IBAA members and public at large

•         Working in a busy office environment

•         May be asked to work in office on weekend occasionally
