EHS is a safe haven for thousands of homeless animals each year, providing veterinary treatment, behavioral rehabilitation, care, enrichment and rehoming. The Role

 

An Adoptions Counsellor 2 plays a vital role in fostering meaningful connections between people and pets by facilitating the adoption of cats, dogs, and small animals, ensuring each match leads to a happy and healthy bond. This position also includes educating adopters, maintaining accurate records, and delivering exceptional customer service, all while adhering to the organization’s commitment to humane animal treatment.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

 

Customer Service

  • Deliver excellent customer service, educating adopters on animal care needs and addressing inquiries.
  • Greet clients, assisting with walk-in inquiries.
  • Respond promptly to adoption-related phone calls and emails.

 

Adoptions

  • Capture photos and videos for animal adoption profiles.
  • Conduct meet-and-greet sessions with potential adopters and their pets.
  • Perform animal interviews for various species.
  • Process adoptions, donations, lottery ticket sales, and other transactions as needed.

Administrative

  • Maintain accurate adoption records in Shelter Buddy and Adopets.
  • Review and evaluate adoption applications.
  • Communicate information effectively with partnering departments using established protocols.
  • Train and mentor Level 1 Hosts and Adoptions Counsellor 1 staff.
  • Monitor and report behavioral changes in animals.
  • Support additional duties as assigned. 

 

Education & Requirements

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent 
  • First Aid certificate
  • Minimum six months of reception and customer service experience
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel , Outlook and internet
  • Experience in animal handling is required.

You possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and thrive in a fast-paced environment while working independently. Additionally, you are confident and comfortable handling animals of all species and temperaments.

Compensation & Hours

 

  • Compensation: EHS offers a competitive not-for-profit compensation package which includes a comprehensive benefits package, and a strong work-life balance.
  • Hours: 40 hours a week; however, is expected to work hours as required to fulfill department responsibilities. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
