Job Summary:

Under the guidance of the Community Living Supervisor and through active team participation, the Community Living Child and Youth Support Worker is responsible to assist children and youth with diverse abilities (developmental disabilities) aged 8 to 18, participate in a group setting. The goal is to further enhance each individual’s social skills as they participate in recreational activities within the STAR Program and in their community. The Community Living Child and Youth Support Worker will also be responsible for assisting interested youth aged 16 to 18 years of age, to prepare for future employment, including skills training development and volunteer work experience. This position includes connecting our individuals served to community programs, resources, and activities, with the view to further improving their self-confidence and ability to interact with their peers and community members in a variety of settings.

Your Role:

Archway’s Child and Youth Support Worker with the STAR Program contributes by:

•        Working collaboratively with the children and youth to assist in reaching their goals, within the group setting; reviewing and evaluating their progress, and adjusting their Person-Centered Plan (PCP), as required.

•        Assisting children and youth to follow their Positive Behaviour Support Plan and Safety Plan as provided by their behavior interventionist and/or school setting.

•        Assisting children and youth learn new ways to interact with others in a positive manner.  

•        Identifying and offering social, recreational and skill building opportunities that are reflective of each child/youth’s interests; providing support, guidance, and safe instruction to facilitate participation.

•        Assisting interested youth aged 16 to 18 with finding volunteer work experience options.

•        Accompanying and/or transporting the children/youth to activities with agency vehicles.

•        Working in partnership with families and caregivers to help ensure individual preferences and supports are addressed.

•        Assisting children and youth to learn new ways to interact with others in a positive manner.

•        Identifying and offering social, recreational and skill building opportunities that are reflective of each child/youth’s interests; provides support, guidance, and safe instruction to encourage participation.

•      Working collaboratively within a team, shares knowledge, information, experiences, and best practices.

•      Maintaining daily – accurate documentation using Archway’s clients’ documentation system – CAMS.

This position is a great fit for someone who enjoys working with children and families, can work independently and as part of a team, can prioritize their workload effectively, and has excellent relationship building skills.    

Our Offer

•        Wage:  $25.95 per hour.

•        2 - Permanent part-time positions at 18 hours per week, availability Mondays to Thursdays with the occasional Friday, from 3:30 AM to 8:00 PM. 

•        1 – Temporary until February 27, 2026. Part-time position at 18 hours per week, availability Mondays to Thursdays with the occasional Friday, from 3:30 AM to 8:00 PM.

•        2 Casual positions availability Mondays to Friday, from 3:30 AM to 8:00 PM.

Getting an Interview – you will be considered if you have:

•        Diploma in a human service-related field and one year recent and related experience.

•        Behavioural Interventionist training is an asset.

•        Valid First Aid with CPR/AED Certificate.

•       Able to use Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

•       Strong planning, organizing, and time management skills; able to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

•       Excellent relationship building and networking skills; able to build positive and trusting working relationships.

•       Able to solve problems and adapt to changes in physical, emotional and health needs, as needed.

•       Ability for light physical exertion in participating in social and recreational activities with individuals.

•       Able to assist children/youth, their families, and caregivers in navigating challenging situations.

•       Ability to work effectively independently, and in a collaborative team setting with other program staff, relevant service providers, and community members.

•       Ability to problem solve and adapt to changes in physical, emotional and health needs, as needed.

•       Excellent relationship building and networking skills; ability to build positive and trusting working relationships.

•       Ability for moderate physical exertion to provide support to individuals.

•       Valid Class 5 BC Drivers’ License, clean driving record and clear Driver’s Abstract.

•       The use of a personal vehicle will be required for program-related driving; must be able to be insured according to Archway’s transportation policy.

•       A satisfactory Criminal Records Check is a condition of employment.
