Special Projects Officer

16 week Temporary Full-time position

November 10, 2025 – March 13, 2026

 

Alberta Recreation and Parks Association (ARPA) is a provincial not for profit charitable organization dedicated to advancing the growth and development of recreation and parks services in Alberta.  The Association provides extensive educational and awareness opportunities, disseminates a broad range of information and acts as an independent voice of the recreation and parks in Alberta.

 

ARPA is seeking a Special Projects Officer for a 16-week temporary full-time position that will assist with planning and coordination of several of ARPA’s programs and events. This position would report to the Executive Director and would work closely with several of ARPA’s program staff.

 

Duties of the Position:

 

Programs

  • 75th Anniversary planning – ARPA will be celebrating its 75th Anniversary in 2026 and this position will support the 75th Anniversary Committee as it begins to plan for celebrations, communications and engagement as we head into the celebration year.
  • Professional Development and Certification Program – provide support in the transformation of this national certificate program for recreation and parks. Duties would include program, online systems and policy development as well as implementing a program launch and communications plan.
  • Parks portfolio – support the development of parks professional development content as well as supporting parks related content for the parks portfolio of ARPA’s membership.
  • Other projects – ARPA has a number of grant applications submitted and continues to search for opportunities for new projects that may fall within this period.

Events

  • 2026 Parks Forum – provide pre-planning support for this professional development event taking place in in the Spring of 2026. Duties would include program development, volunteer coordination, sponsorship development and marketing.

  • strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, internet, email)

Salary and details

  • recently graduated post-secondary student enrolled in Recreation, Physical Education, Communications, Business or a related degree
  • Work can be done remotely or in our offices located in Edmonton
  • Work week is 35 hours/week Monday to Friday 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM. Some evening and weekend work may be required
  • $21/hour plus 4% vacation pay
  • this position is a 16-week full-time position
  • all travel and ancillary expenses related to job duties will be covered
