Job Summary

At the heart of our work is an interdisciplinary approach that delivers holistic, community-based care – with a strong focus on individuals who experience barriers to accessing health services.  Our team is deeply committed to inclusivity and works within the social determinants of health framework, emphasizing prevention, health promotion, and client education.

Under the direct supervision of the Youth Programs Manager in alignment with program objectives and organizational goals, the Youth Program Specialist - Life Skills/Leadership Facilitator will lead and support life skills and leadership development programming to improve the lives of youth and their families.

The incumbent will ensure that all organizational policies are adhered to.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Facilitate life skills, leadership development, and health promotion programming through workshops, training, events, camps, and outreach activities.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate activities and special projects in collaboration with youth, volunteers, staff, and community members.
  • Create and maintain a safe, supportive, empowering, and inclusive environment where youth are active decision-makers and partners in the program.
  • Provide supervision to program participants, including behaviour management, conflict resolution, and crisis intervention.
  • Build healthy, respectful relationships with youth and maintain positive collaborations with community partners, program staff, and caretakers.
  • Connect with Community Health Work team to provide youth with appropriate information and community resources.
  • Support peer leaders and volunteers while ensuring compliance with LAMP’s policies and procedures.
  • Record attendance; log program notes; and maintain participant registration records.
  • Manage supplies, materials, and equipment, and perform other duties as assigned consistent with the role.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years combined experience working with youth and planning, implementing, and evaluating community-based programs/projects.
  • Recent experience working with youth ages 10–24 from various cultural, ethnic, socio-economic, and developmental backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of LAMP Community Health Centre, the Central and South Etobicoke communities, and the challenges youth in these communities’ experience.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, manage conflict, tolerate high noise levels, and engage with large groups of youth (up to 60) and staff.
  • Food Handling, De-escalation training, and CPR certification (an asset).
  • Solid working knowledge of and ability to navigate a Windows PC environment.
  • Proof of a Vulnerable Sector Check is required prior to hiring.
