Position summary

Maintenance Staff are responsible for ensuring safe, sanitary, and well-maintained environments across all St. Felix Centre (SFC) facilities. The position involves a wide range of custodial, operational support, and site maintenance duties across multiple locations.

RESPONSIBILITES

  • Carry out scheduled and emergency facility cleaning duties in residential, communal, administrative, and support service areas;
  • Reliable and willing to work flexible hours including evenings, overnights, weekends, weekdays and holidays;
  • Clean and sanitize washrooms, showers, kitchens, dining spaces, hallways, stairwells, and common areas;
  • Replenish consumables such as soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and sanitizers;
  • Safely remove garbage, recycling, compost and hazardous waste;
  • Move bins to and from curbside; 
  • Maintain tidiness and safety of exterior areas including litter removal, snow shoveling, and salting as required;
  • Handle and dispose of sharps and biohazards in accordance with SFC protocols and public health standards;
  • Respond to urgent sanitation and safety-related needs, including spills, infestations, and environmental hazards;
  • Support room turnovers and site readiness for internal programming or external inspections;
  • Adhere to health and safety requirements including WHMIS, PPE use, and infection prevention protocols;
  • Report facility damage, pest issues, or operational risks to the Maintenance Supervisor;
  • Other related duties assigned.

Education

  • Completion of High School Diploma or commensurate work experience.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 1-year previous maintenance or janitorial experience;
  • Experience working in a shelter, respite or supportive housing environment will be considered an asset;
  • Demonstrated reliability and availability to attend scheduled shifts;
  • Experience working with cleaning chemicals and following MSDS.

SKILLS

  • Ability to work independently;
  • Strong verbal communication skills;
  • Knowledge of janitorial best practice including WHMIS considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of low barrier and anti-oppressive approaches considered an asset;
  • Ability to remain poised and calm in urgent situations.

Job Type: Full-time (In person)

Location: St. Felix Centre- (629 Adelaide St. W)

Days and Shift – Monday to Friday. 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm
