 Full time: Monday-Friday, 8 hours per day

Job Summary:

The Chaplain position focuses on providing Christian spiritual care to community members accessing Hope Mission services. The position is flexible and open-ended, but ultimately aims to share the love of Christ with people in need. This can be done by showing love, kindness, and compassion and thereby cultivating hope. This position can also connect people with services and resources to help people exit homelessness and improve their wellbeing.  

This position will also focus on providing cultural awareness training and input into additional staff training concerns to promote wellness and care.   

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Chaplaincy
  • Indigenous cultural awareness training
  • Input into developing training concepts for staff wellness and care 

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

  • Full Class 5 Alberta driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract and 5 years accident free driving record.
  • Clean criminal record check, including vulnerable sector check and child welfare check is required.
  • First Aid and Non Violent Crisis Intervention training is an asset, but is provided if needed.
  • High degree of competency in boundaries, assertiveness, accountability and maximizing opportunities.
  • High level of care and compassion for culturally marginalized and underprivileged people.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.

Key competencies:

  • Emotional intelligence and capacity to respond quickly and effectively to rapidly changing circumstances.
  • Understanding and passion for God’s written word and God’s call to serve the poor and marginalized
  • Ability to work well under pressure and interact compassionately with intoxicated individuals or/and individuals with poor mental health.
  • Skill in coaching, facilitating, and training for life change and character development.

Other Requirements:

  • Being a Christian Organization we require our employees to be in agreement and sign the Hope Mission Statement of Faith.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada on a full-time basis.
  • Able to provide Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search and a Child Intervention Record Check
  • A letter of reference from a ministry or church is required
  • Adherence to Hope Mission’s Policies and Procedures
