About the Role

The YMCA of Greater Toronto is looking to fill three vacancies (East, North, South) for the role of Vice President, Health & Fitness. This is an extraordinary opportunity to shape the future of health and fitness across one of Canada’s most respected charitable organizations. The Vice President, Health & Fitness provides strategic leadership for multiple centres that deliver dynamic, fun, and impactful programming.

 

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Health and Fitness, these roles champion operational excellence, drive innovation to meet evolving community needs, and ensure every participant experiences a sense of belonging while engaging in programs that promote physical, mental, and social well-being.

 

In addition, the Vice President, Health and Fitness (South) will oversee the YMCA Academy, a Ministry-inspected independent middle and high school serving students with learning differences. This responsibility includes aligning the Academy’s initiatives with the YMCA’s strategic priorities and amplifying its positive impact within the community. Together, these leadership roles are pivotal in advancing the YMCA’s mission to ignite potential and strengthen communities through inclusive, values-driven programs that make a lasting difference.

 

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Program Oversight

•        Collaborate with the Senior VP and Health & Fitness leadership team to ensure program success, address challenges, and align initiatives with the YMCA’s strategic objectives.

•        Define portfolio centres goals and expected outcomes, in consultation with senior program leaders, ensuring alignment with the Association, program, and funder expectations.

 

Operational Excellence & Financial Management

•        Assume accountability for developing, implementing, and evaluating Health & Fitness programs, partnering with leaders to drive membership and engagement.

•        Oversee budgeting, expenses, and reporting requirements; monitor operational performance and implement solutions to maintain quality and financial sustainability.

 

Asset Development & Renewal

•        Lead initiatives focused on growth of owned sites and reinvestment, including modernization, preventative maintenance, and strategic capital improvements to attract new members.

•        Drive long-term asset planning and renewal strategies to ensure facilities remain competitive, sustainable, and aligned with YMCA’s mission.

 

Community Engagement & Brand Positioning

•        Partner with Marketing and Communications to position YMCA centres as community hubs, develop outreach strategies, and grow participation through partnerships.

•        Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, members, and volunteers, promoting YMCA branding and program positioning externally.

 

Talent Development & Fundraising

•        Work with senior program leaders to build and coach staff and volunteer teams, set performance expectations, and foster a culture of excellence.

•        Set and achieve fundraising goals, steward donor relationships, and ensure retention to support program sustainability.

 

Additional Key Responsibilities Vice President, Health & Fitness (South)

•        Provide executive leadership for YMCA Academy, ensuring sustainability through enrollment and outreach strategies while fostering a culture of innovation, student-centred learning, and collaboration across YMCA programs.

•        Support the Head of School in delivering high-quality, inclusive education that meets Ministry standards, maintaining positive labour relations, and overseeing staffing models and organizational effectiveness within a strong, values-driven culture.

 

Qualifications

•        Post-secondary degree in physical education, kinesiology, non-profit management or a related field, or equivalent experience.

•        Minimum of 7 years’ progressively responsible experience in leadership roles, involving responsibility for planning, operations, and financial management.

•        Proven ability to manage complex programs, budgets, and drive growth through strategic planning and marketing.

•        Strong team leadership, collaboration, and communication; experience in unionized environments an asset.

•        Results-driven, relationship-focused, and committed to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

 

 

Salary Range: $162,000 - $200,000
