The Position:

The Jane/Finch Centre is recruiting for a Community Well-Being Worker (Settlement Focus) to cover a maternity leave until December 11, 2026. This full-time, unionized position (35 hours per week) plays an important role in supporting newcomer residents through culturally responsive settlement, care navigation, and wellbeing-focused programming.

The position is accountable to the Community Well-Being Manager


General Responsibilities:
The Community Wellbeing Worker (Settlement Focus) is responsible for the implementation of community-based mental and social health interventions specifically targeted to newcomer individuals and families, permanent residents, conventional refugees, and refugee claimants.
Working from a social determinant of mental health perspective, this role facilitates the successful settlement and integration of newcomers by providing culturally appropriate mental health promotion, individual care navigation, and direct settlement support.
Specific Responsibilities:
Client-Facing Settlement & Wellbeing Support
●    Provide individual care navigation services including taking and receiving referrals, performing client intake, engaging in collaborative service planning, and facilitating service coordination.
●    Offer comprehensive settlement services, including referrals, documentation assistance, interpretation, and outreach.
●    Assist clients with form completion, translation, interpretation, and follow-up as needed.
●    Bridge clients between different sectors including mental health, healthcare, and social service sectors.
●    Deliver excellent client care by providing informal emotional support, engaging in client advocacy, and offering brief, solution-focused counseling to clients facing challenges.
●    Support participants in navigating a range of systems including housing, education, employment, income supports, and financial navigation to enhance overall wellbeing and integration.


Program Facilitation and Outreach
●    Plan and provide direct service to newcomer residents through culturally appropriate mental health promotion and education.
●    Facilitate regular health promotion sessions, social/recreational activities, and workshops for newcomers to build connections.
●    Support the design and delivery of community-based wellness programs, including social, recreational, and creative activities that promote mental wellbeing and community connection.
●    Conduct and support the Community Wellbeing team in regular community outreach to newcomer residents of Jane and Finch.
●    Build collaborative working relationships and partnerships with other community service providers and agencies.
●    Advocate for the needs and concerns of newcomer residents to improve their quality of life.


Administrative and Team Responsibilities
●    Use an equity-informed, anti-oppressive, and anti-racist lens in all aspects of service delivery and strategic outreach.
●    Stay informed of government policies impacting immigrants and program participants.
●    Identify innovative opportunities and report on trends and community needs related to newcomer mental health in Jane and Finch.
●    Maintain meticulous and organized records of intake, casework, group work, and monthly statistics.
●    Administer data collection and evaluation activities for program monitoring and reporting.
●    Provide guidance and support to volunteers and students, fostering their learning and development.
●    Perform other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
●    Education: Post-secondary education in Social Sciences, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.

●    Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience working within the community mental health sector, including providing case management or care navigation support. Experience applying community development principles and practices is required.

●    Language Skills:
o    Verbal and written fluency in English.
o    Essential: Fluency in a second language that serves a high-need community in Jane and Finch. (Priority communities include Hungarian, Karen, South Asian, Chinese, Spanish).

●    Skills and Knowledge:
o    Ability to comprehend the complex needs of participants through a mental health lens, particularly in the context of social determinants of mental health and issues faced by newcomer youth and families (e.g., adaptation, employment, family stressors, racism).
o    Familiarity with casework processes, including intake, referrals, case management, and follow-up, preferably in a settlement context.
o    Experience in community health promotion, with strong group facilitation and program planning skills.
o    Strong advocacy, communication, problem-solving, and listening skills.
o    Demonstrated cultural competence and experience working with a diversity of communities and cultures.
o    Strong knowledge, understanding, and experience working within an equity, anti-oppressive, and anti-racist framework.

●    Knowledge of local available resources and services in the Jane/Finch community and northwest Toronto.
●    Familiarity with Ontario’s healthcare and mental healthcare systems is considered an asset.
●    Demonstrated ability to work appropriately and sensitively with confidential information.
●    Strong administrative, organizational, and time management skills.
●    Flexibility is required for hours of availability (evenings and weekends).
●    Ability to work independently and proactively as a team player.
●    Satisfactory police check is required.
